Ok so I started block one in August at CGCC and I hate it (the school not nursing) I am an A student but for some reason I am at the border of not passing block one. What is wrong with me? The most frustating thing is that almost half of the class is failing too. My husband thinks I should withdralw and wait to get into MCC or another program but I don't know what to do. Part of me wants to at least try to pass block one an then transfer and another part of me is afraid of failing and ruining my GPA that I worked so hard for (I want to go to graduate school) Please I need advise I don't know what the best thing to do is and if I quit right now I'll have to wait forever again to get into a program. Please Help
Nursing school is different than what we take in pre-reqs in that it requires critical thinking. Pre-reqs give you a good knowledge base for school, but they don't teach you how to answer questions the "nursing school way". Getting your mind to master how to answer questions in the format that they are asked in nursing school may be the key to success, and the root of the problem here.
I'd advise buying a good NCLEX study book and using the CD-ROM to go over NCLEX style questions on your computer. It is quick, and a great way to study. In my opinion, it will help you with material, but most importantly will improve your critical thinking skills. I struggled with critical thinking in block 1 too. All of the answers on exams seemed to be correct to me. I really struggled to pick the BEST correct answer. After buying an NCLEX study book, things turned around right away. Good luck!

I graduated in 2006 from PCC. I taped the lectures, had a study group, took notes, and read the material. I would rewrite the material again when I made note cards and quizzed myself for hours. I would take my note cards with me on clinicals and quiz myself when I had the opportunity. ONLY study for the current test and think of nothing else. Find yourself a quiet room without distraction to study in. The most difficult thing about nursing school is you have to understand the material. All the MCC nursing programs test according to the NCLEX. I also had a GPA of 4.0 going into the program but I dont think that matters as much for people llike me (great memorization). Good luck to you. Stick it out, have confidence. Remember most....DONT FREAK OUT!
