I would like to know from any Canadian Nurse that is working in the U.S or in the process of moving to U.S. What State did you move to? what are the required forms? and the length of time it took for it all to go through?
I currently work in Toronto, I have applied all over Ontario and still not one phone call (With the layoffs in the province I doubt to hear from anyone soon).
I have a BscN, I have taken and passed the NCLEX-RN. I have 5 years experience as a nurse and I'm in desperate need of a full time, even part time work soon. I have been told recently that I will be let go of my job in December (They can no longer afford nurses. I was warned of this earlier this year but foolishly thought it was all talk, now I'm scrambling to find work).
I was planning on applying to NY but right now I am willing on moving to any State, I am a city girl but willing on moving to any rural area also.
For the CGFNS I am applying to NY (CVS) for the other States I am not sure whether I need to apply to the VisaScreen or if it is the Credentials evaluation service professional report.
Any help is appreciated.

I am also wondering the same thing. I'm kind of the same situation as you, here in Toronto as well but not an interview anywhere in Ontario for a full time job, and open to seeking US employment. The difference is that I'm a new grad.... I don't know about the Credentials evaluation but a US recruiter told me to get the VisaScreen certificate because it's one of the docs needed to cross the border. For the VisaScreen, they said the processing length varies because they have to wait for transcripts from the university/college themselves to send it to them, probably at least 2 months. And if there's anything wrong or missing with the application, that could cause some delays too. The CGFNS website provides a lot of info on the visascreen.

Visa screen is useless without a US nursing license that can get you hired and a letter of employment to secure a TN visa (assuming you are a BScN/RN and a Canadian citizen). There are very few employees seeking inexperienced new grads. Though Canadians have an advantage as the TN visa only requires a VSC & US license as an RN unlike other nationalities that need full visa sponsorship
