I am indecisive regarding to which will be a better option for me (resource pool vs. a specific floor) and any input will be greatly appreciated.
Resource pool
Pro: great boss who is down to earth and pleasant to work with; no drama and politics; experiences on different floors. flexibility (can work on any floor if request)
Cons: may be pulled to work as an aid , may be pulled every 4 hours which is not enough time to even chart;
Current floor
Pro: I like the nature of the work on this floor; solid schedules as a nurse; 12 hour continuous shift.
Cons: the boss can be very hard to work with (a lot of drama and petty stuff); politics on the floor; inflexibility (can't work on another floor that easy comparing to the pool)
I am sure everyone perceive the pros and cons differently, and some pros may be cons for some people depending on the type of person we are. Would love to hear about some insights from those who worked both places.

Are you an experienced nurse? If you are I would go with the float pool position. I was in a float pool for over 2 years and loved it. While you don't have a "home" unit, you get to learn how to take care of all the pts of the hospitals, and become of jack of all trades of sorts. The amount of knowledge you learn from floating is invaluable.

I think I would take the float. Even if it is just for a while, you'll have great experiences and get an inside look at other floors and can decide if you want to work there full time eventually. The drama of your current floor is a deterrent for me.

I currently float and also LOVE IT!!! I spent 2 1/2 years on a floor I loved but that did not always give that love back and the manager situation was similar. My current manager leads in a way that I prefer to be lead and with floating I can stay out of the floors politics much easier and focus more on doing my job with less drama...this experience/job is priceless to me...plus you should get a nice differential with being in the float pool.
