Help me decide on rn to bsn on line.....

Published

Hello everyone, I am a long time RN for 30 years now, and have a diploma RN from Canada. I am required to get my BSN by 2020. I work at Tampa General Hospital. They will pay 4,000 a year per calendar year. All schools have told me that I can divide it up, some this year and some next year to be able to get it paid. I'm now stuck between choosing a school. I want the least credits needed, reasonably priced, and the easier the better 😊

Im narrowed down to these, GCU, Chsmberlain, WGU, Capella. WGU is making me do the most credits though, including biochemistry, biology and stats. GCU is only telling me I need 11 classes which is half of WGU but is more e pensive.

Capella is the least credits needed and no stats, no chemistry no biology all mainly nursing classes. They seem the easiest to do but how reputable are they? They are accredited. Any advice?

thsnk you. Looking to start soon.

Fellow Canuck here..but all my nursing studies have been in the USA. I did my RN to BSN online at GCU....They originally told me I needed 10 classes...then it turned to 12..which is what most require. So I took 10 core nursing classes, then 2 anything classes. GCU is a fine program, around $18000 for 12 classes...so def not the cheapest.. Classes are 5 weeks in length..2 discussions questions due each week (very easy to do) and of course you have to reply to fellow students posts (like 6 replies) and usually 1 paper due Sunday at midnight each week.....sometimes 2 papers......and most classes have a group project..usually a Powerpoint presentation, due week 4 or 5! The online library & Librarians are very good....I thought the whole online classroom was laid out......but I'm sure there are as goo dor better schools for less $$$$$ I can only talk about my GCU experience. Any questions, feel free to PM me...best of luck. Both my sisters back in Canada are RNs as well.

WGU all the way. It may be more classes but it should be self paced like the BSN to MSN. Some classes may only take a week since the content is easier the more familiar the student is with it. It's set up to build off of your working knowledge. I wish I had done my RN to BSN at WGU.

Right now I have five classes left and plan to graduate by July and I started last August. I also get $4000 a year from my employer and with WGU's flat rate per six month semester I will be done in just under two terms. I started in August to take full benefit of my tuition assistance.

I don't think there are any discussion boards as there aren't any for the MSN. I hated those during my RN to BSN...they were almost to the equivalent of doing care plans in my ASN but way less beneficial. Not saying it wasn't worth it to get my BSN and that I didn't learn a lot but it wasn't from the stupid discussion boards! The structure for me can't be beat either...I'm spoiled now and can't ever image having to be in a six week or four month long class again when I could just do the work on my own timeline...shortest class has been one week and longest was two months with sometimes having two classes open at once.
