Help critique resume please

Hello,

I have only 1 yr experience in nursing so I'm having trouble making my resume stand out. Any input would be apprechiated! I'm looking to apply for a job abroad with the department of defense. Here is what I have so far.

Educating student nurses ---> Trained X student nurses in over Y hours of XYZ

Is this for a federal job? If so I strongly recommend you look at the 'fed job books' as a local library / bookstore - as there is a specific point scoring system with a HUGE focus on developing your KSA statements.

(if that acronym is new to you... you really should check out a fed book from the library - they also have specific KSA development guides)

I would also say that it is generally a long lead time for fed jobs in general - best of luck!

just_cause has good tips. And do check the KSA statements; if they scan your resume (and I believe they do) those key buzzwords get picked up and usually advance your resume past the scanner's desk.

Also - take out your first person references - say something like "honed customer service skills while working long hours in a stressful environment". Leave it to the interviewer to ask you how that prepared you for nursing. And that would go under "previous work experience".
