Anyone have any recommendations on a rigorous FNP or ACNP MSN program? I've seen the curriculums for some of the major schools and frankly, they don't impress. It's like 80% nursing philosophy, and 20% hard-core stuff. Please give me some recommendations for some TX NP programs with a higher ratio of the hard-core stuff. I want to leave my Florence Nightingale cap at the ADN/BSN doorstep.

will be standing by for responses.....
And by stuff I mean, more pathophysiology, more pharmacology, more clinical applications. Any NP programs have a cadaver lab? (holding my breath)
I definitely want less to nil assignments about how to address homelessness through nursing, cultural experience show-and-tell, etc.
i know what you mean... i am finishing my rn to bsn program at tech now and have had more theory and research than i can stand....i have heard that uta has a good hands on program and know someone that recommends them but no first hand knowledge....i am applying to np school next month and have been searching for a more clinical based program like you.....i hope we find something that fits both our needs....
I think it is exactly the ultra-padding of fluff that makes nurses the target of ridicule by MDs and PAs. I seriously wouldn't mind putting in some hard-hitting stuff. Seriously. I would rather spend a few hours memorizing muscle insertions and origins than writing yet another paper about Watson's transpersonal nursing and its application in the modern ghetto. Or skill me up in doing epidurals or something; at least that is useful to a patient. Most of the cultural & philosophical stuff can be summed up as "respect your patient; do no harm; be professional; realize your limits; document well; maintain confidentiality." They could put it one a single piece of paper.

Ladies -- If you are still lamenting the lack of rigor in NP programs, consider coming to Maine to Husson University. Just adding a cadaver lab to our Pathophysiology (soon to be Anatomy &....)grad course, re-developing an already-strong pharmacotherapeutics course (which will be offered on-line in summer 2012!) and clinical courses that are outstanding. We have a 100% certification rate as well. If interested: [email protected] -- mary jude

What makes you think any of it is fluff? So stereo typical. Its not fluff, it is being holistic, which separates us; but a little goes a long way...I like the knowledge side of nursing too.
