Help! Being held in contempt of court

Published

Hello all!

Not sure if this is the proper thread for this topic but here it is...

My ex and I have a standard visitation in place regarding our son. Friday 5pm to Sunday 5pm. I am currently in school finishing my ADN. Because of my school schedule and me wanting to spend more time with my son on the weekends I asked my ex to revise the visitation order, he agreed. However now he has filed with the courts and I am being served with papers stating I have been in contempt of court. Due to school my finances are low and I really can't afford an attorney but I know I need one. My ex and I have both been wrong and not followed the agreed order. Our hearing is 10 days after graduation so my question is if I am found guilty of contempt of court how I'll this effect me getting my nursing license? This is the first time for such matter so could I go to jail?? I'd appreciate any input and advice, especially from any one who has gone through this themselves. (no rude comments please!)

For the most current legal advice regarding your situation, it would be most optimal if you consulted with an attorney. Good luck to you and we hope you can attain a resolution soon.

Being held in contempt of court order would you require to disclose that info to BON on application in many states---something you don't want to happen. A lawyer will help protect your rights.

Boards of Nursing link found at bottom of every allnurses page can be used to locate your states BON application to see what is required to disclose.

Nursing Licensure With A Criminal History form has FAQ at top of page with info that maybe of interest to you.

Hope you can get this amicably resolved.
