help! Australia nurse to Nevada, OB requirement

Hi guys, 

I am a nurse working in Sydney, Australia. I also did my bachelor's and gained my first license in Australia. 

The story is, I am trying to move to Nevada. Passed Cgfn CES report, and started applying on Nevada BON. hoping to get authorisation to take NCLEX, pass it, get the license, find a job and move. 

But now Nevada BON told me "We cannot determine that you have completed a didactic and clinical course in OB/maternal health nursing"

I told them OB is not in the curriculum and I work in Emergency and passed cgfn IDK if it is going to make a difference. I am waiting for their reply, 

I have browsed online for solutions like No Tomorrow, some people say you can get licensed in other states and then be endorsed in the state you want to move --> I checked the NEVADA endorsement requirement, they still need an education transcript. 

I am so stuck. I thought after passing cgfn everything would be easier but no :( 

Has anyone experienced similar things or can anyone give me some ideas?

I ended up found a school in Nevada that can let me enrol into their maternity class (with clinical) in their nursing program. I'm now waiting for enrolment in fall. I hope I'll complete this one single unit smoothly and I pray for no more unexpected requirements 

Verify with the BON that this solution will satisfy their requirements.

Yea I did! Thanks :)) 

Send them the overview of the course and yhe website. They approved it and asked me to send them the script once done the class.

Hi Vivi,

Im also from Australia having same issue here, I am so happy to see your post and knowing you found a solution for yourself! I have been approaching several providers and they all said to NO to just enroll a couple of subjects. Could you please comment here for the name of the school that's offering you? I am just having technical difficulties to PM you (the system said I reached the daily limit to PM people for some weird reason I guess)

Thanks very much for your comment 🙂 

Actually Im trying to get license in Arizona. But all the approved providers I have approached have said NO for just doing a couple of units. I am going to try the rest of the list but I am at a point of getting worried and frustrated. 

Can anyone please share some insight if they were in the similar situation?

Hi Em, 

I ended up having issue to enrol the class. I'm now going to NY. One good thing is after you used cgfn, they save your document. So getting another CVS only takes less than 2 weeks. I have handed my application with all the documents and now waiting for my ATT from NYBON. Hopefully by next month. 

I'll have to figure out after I get to NY. Maybe study something in NY then go Nevada. The Nevada application is just too complicated. (SSN, OB requirement etc). I wish America has one BON and one standard like Australia. But  yeah, maybe try NYC. I don't really have that much savings to burn while waiting for Nevada. 😞

Thank you for getting back to me! So sorry to hear that NV did not work out for you.

While I was waiting for you last week, I also applied for NY, and same here, I used my preexisting CES paperwork for NY CVS. Surprisingly I got the CVS report in just one day, too good to be true 😮 (For the people struggling with CGFNS, hang in there, you will get it!)

Now I just hope NY has not changed their rules so we can get by!! And did you order another AHPRA CoRS to NY? They want it directly rather than through CGFNS. That's what I did, I could be wrong, but just thought to remind you this.

If we are lucky and end up getting NY license, we should celebrate!! And maybe do the make up units together (if we ever find one). Look at Inbox for my contact details 🙂

WOW your CVS is so fast, I thought mine was fast enough. That is very lucky!!

No I did not order from AHPRA, did NYBON already replied you? I am just waiting for them to tell me what else I need. apparently, they haven't received my CVS from CGFN. I will check in again in 2 weeks. 

I will have a look the inbox now. Have been busy with life I did not check my email for a while.
