I am interested in starting a nursing program. I am fresh out of high school and just trying to find the right program for me. I have had meetings with Pima Medical Institute and Apollo college. What has your experience been with either of these RN programs? Also, I have a child so what is the schedule like when enrolled in an RN program? Help would be grealty appreciated!
First, I want you to understand that once you start your nursing core classes, you will not be able to take many, if any, classes online. Most of them have labs or clinicals and have to be done on-campus. This first semester I would have been able to take 3 classes online - math, English, and pyschology. I think it would be the same with the second semester - up to 3 classes online. However, I will warn you, taking classes online is not any easier than on-campus. The semester is actually shorter and you're expected to do the same amount of work in about half the time. You also have to be extremely self-motivated and not procrastinate. I prefer and recommend taking classes on campus. Your first semester schedule would be Monday thru Thursday 8am to about 1pm.There are a lot of questions I would love to ask about your situation to see if I could give you any advice but I don't think is appropriate on an "open" thread. Email me and maybe we can do it that way or even set up a chat where I can answer questions in real-time.

. One of the most important things in choosing a program is how many years it's been established. I just wanted to pass this on to you only because i live in southern arizona and a PMI program opened up just a year ago here.
New programs have a billion kinks to work out, and are super disorganized, and guess who's back it falls on? The student's! Beware.
Not to mention they are competing for clinical placements with the other schools that have been around for a long time. I know a recent program that opened up here and the student do all their clinicals in a nursing home (including med-surg) because the hospitals gave clinical times the older programs.
Nevertheless, good luck with everything!
