Help with Anatomy class

Published

I hope I'm ok with starting this post. I'm kind of new! I'm 49 years old and I'm starting LPN school in the fall. This summer I'm taking the BIO135 class that is required. The thing is, this class cannot be transferred to the ADN program. I can't get into the ADN right now because there is such a waiting list. Also offered this summer is the BIO137 and 139 in two consecutive six week periods and these can be transferred. I just can't decide if it would be a good idea to take two hard classes in a row like that. Does anyone have any insight on this? I would appreciate any and all help! Than you all.

I took all my a/p classes in a row because it was offered in a block only. I passed it no trouble with the help of outside study groups, a great lab partner (who he and I stayed up late nights at coffee shops many a night studying!), and getting the Nursing made incredibly easy Anatomy and Physiology book! That book saved my hide more times than I could count! (they have a full series on all apects of nursing...my recomendation is to get them...you can thank me later ;) ).

I was 30ish when I took the classes, and only blocked for those a/p classes (no others because I knew I would be studying too hard for another class!). I am glad I chose to take them only, and take the extra time needed to complete them before moving on!!!

Good luck to you! Also another piece of advice..get a good but funny lab partner...when you are memorizing parts of the body (especially bones) it is great to have someone that can make up a rhyme or something funny to remember them by!!! I made up a few funny raps, and aced...just would have been funny seeing me mouth the words when I was testing! LOL!!!!!!

Hi there. Why don't you ask people who attend(ed) your school? It's hard for me to say, since I am not familiar with the specifics of coursework at your school. You could also ask one of the school counselors. At my college, there were counselors who specialized in health care curriculum, and were familiar with the course work. They could give you some good advice. I took a lab science class once at my college in the summer. It was a butt-kicker. We met Mon-Thurs 8a-4 pm. I have known people who took 18 units/semester.That's a killer for most people, especially if you work and have a family. What some can do, other cannot. It's important to know your own limits. Good luck with school!

Take the two anatomy classes! I know the opportunities for LPNs in Illinois are becoming scarce and all of our LPNs are going back to become RNs. (It has been mandated by the hospital for all LPNs to be in school or they will lose their jobs) I don't know if other states are similar but I would do what I needed to get into an ADN program.

Thank you all so much........getting answers at the vo-tech is like pulling hens teeth! I have heard people say that anatomy class will kill you. I guess I'm just trying to figure out what's best for me, and I will get the book! And, it's so scary to think that they might make everyone become an RN. That really gives me something to chew on. I do appreciate all advice!

i took my A&P classes in a row. i found it helpful b/c i didn't forget anything from the first to the next. if you stay on top of your studies you will be fine i am sure!!

Best of luck to you!!

Thanks Future RN! I have taken your alls (country lingo!), advice and am going to sign up for these 2 classes!! Thanks so much!

Hi Terry,

I am also 40is and trying to get into the lpn class for this fall. Almost impossible to get into the ADN course. I figure I can bridge to the RN after I complete the LPN plus I have no healthcare experience. Students at this school have told me that their LPN course is preparatory for the ADN.

I plan to do the ADN also after the LPN is complete. I think it's like 22 hours or 2 semesters. I'm like you...no health care experience except when I worked at the nursing home in my clinical for Nurses Aide. I guess getting the Nurses Aide cert is required in all states. Anyway, good luck!!
