Hi guys I need help!! I have this paper due this week and i'm really confused. Here is the paper topic then i'll tell you why i'm confused:

Visit the OBN (ohio board of nursing) and the ANA website.

Obtain a copy of the Ohio Rules and Regulations and the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice and visit the websites

Write a brief paper-no longer than 2-3 pates on the following 3 questions

1.compare and contrast the purpose of the ANA and the OBN

2.Describe each document and its purpose

3.How will these documents affect your nursing career

ok...so i understand the directions but I had a friend copy the necc documents for me, i dont know if i have the right ones. I think that one is the "code of ethics" from the ANA but is that the same thing as the "scope and standards of practice?" Ive been to the ANA website and I cant find this document that my prof says is there? Any insight on this topic would be appreciated too:) thanks so much

I'm pretty sure that the only way you are going to see the complete text of the ANA Standards of Practice is if you buy it. However, if you go to their "store" on their web site you will find a short synopsis of what is in the Standards of Practice publication which will give you a thumbnail sketch of its content.

At the Ohio Board of Nursing site, click on "Law and Rule" for the Ohio Nurse Practice Act. You will be taken to a page of links for the different sections of the nurse practice act.

Have fun!

wow thanks for the info:)...im more confused on which document is which lol...see my instructor put both documents on reserve at the library (bc you have to pay for the ANA one aparently), my friend made a copy for me when she was there bc I didnt have time to stop...I have the "ohio nurse practice act"...she came back with three articles...two talk about Ohio so I assume those came from the OBON..the thrid one is from the ANA but its called "the code of ethics for nurses" I am just wondering if that is the same thing as the "ANA Nursing:Scope and Standards of Practice"...is the code of ethics part of that or is the code ethics the scope and standards of practice? This is where I am confused...I thought maybe if anyone had read this ANA:scope and standards of practice maybe they could tell me? I have a whole photocopied packet of the Code of Ethics...I think I am supposed to compare the code of ethics with the rules and regualtions the OBON puts out...unless there is another document that the scope and standards of practice is referring too....sigh..confused...

When I was a member of ANA every once in awhile they would send out a copy of their Standards of Practice. It's the same size and thickness of one their nursing journals. I checked their website. I could not view this document. You have to purchase it from them to see what is in it. The little explanation for it, however, in their book purchasing section has a nice breakdown of what's in it and I think that may be what your instructor is looking for. Other than doing some searches of their site I don't know where else you can find this information.

the code of ethics is the ethics on which nursing practice is based .

standards of practice involves the components of the nursing process and standards of professional performance.

synopsis at ana website:

code of ethics for nurses with interpretive statements - establishes the profession's ethical standard for practice.

nursing: scope and standards of practice -as the keystone of the ana nursing standards, articulates the who, what, when, where, and how of practice.

nursing: scope and standards of practice

the book begins with an introduction, then delves into the scope of nursing practice with a definition of nursing, the history of the profession, a look at nurses in various practice settings and a discussion of the art and science of nursing.

the standards of nursing practice section includes two components: the standards of nursing practice section and standards of professional performance.

the first contains six headings representing a component of the nursing process, with a description of the process plus measurement criteria to describe how an rn should be conducting activities. those activities are: assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation and evaluation.

these are the components of the standards of professional performance section: quality of practice; education, including a mandate for lifelong learning; professional practice evaluation; collegiality; collaboration; ethics ; research, including how a nurse should integrate research findings into practice; resource utilization; and leadership, a new standard.
