Hey! My name is Teresa. I am currently in my pre-req classes at Waubonsee Community College (getting an A in A+P and English!). I'm pretty much here looking for support and conversation with people in the area, maybe who have been to WCC.

Welcome Teresa! You'll get a lot of support and conversation here! I don't go to Waubonsee (I start the nursing program at UIC next month), but I'm available if you have any questions or just need support :nuke:

Hi Teresa, I don't go to WCC either but I don't live far from there. I am starting the nursing program at NIU next month and am here if you have any questions, vents, or exciting news to share. Great job on those grades and best wishes.

Specializes in Burns, ICU.

Hi! Teresa - good luck at WCC, I don't go there either, but I am sure it will be great. Keep a positive attitude and all will turn out in the end!

Thanks guys! I am getting more and more excited about school, actually getting into nursing classes after my pre-reqs.

Welcome Teresa,

It is nice to meet one of my own kind! I finished my pre-reqs in May at WCC. Now I am just waiting to get into the nursing program. There is about a semester lag between applyining and getting in. I would love to be there for you. Who are you taking for A&P 2?

I don't have my schedule handy right now, but I have DeLay for either Microbiology or A+P 2. Do you know how Waubonsee works their selection for each semester? Do they base alot on grade point average?

Hi Teresa,

.I reccomend that you get the coloring book NOW and start coloring! The coloring book is worth extra points. Do not be fooled the coloring book is labor intensive. You can look up your books on-line at the book store. You may want to read chapter 1 and take notes before the first day of class. For lab I always read the lab ahead of time and tried to have the review section in the back completed before hand. These can take a very long time. However, I got so much out of lab when I did this.

I have a 4.0-for what I do not know. Addmission is pure lottery. This is how it works. You apply to the nursing program during your last semester of pre-reqs. Then they send you a letter stating that you are elgible (sp?), but there are no seats available. Then you are placed on the priority wait list for the next semester. Essentially, you have a semester off before getting into the program.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Well, I can't take a semester off because I got a program scholarship, so I need to take at least 9 credit hours. If I don't get in right away, I will see what I can take to help me towards a BSN later.

I was hoping alot would be based on GPA. I thought it said something like that in the Nursing program handout. Oh, well. I could be wrong. I will look again.

I would be sooo in the program now if admissions were based on GPA. They are just looking for a C or better. It is very frustrating when you have a great GPA. I would be quite pleased if they changed the admissions criteria.

I am taking classes that will go toward my BSN while I am waiting to get into the program. I already have a BA-so I do not have to take that many.

How many Pre-reqs do you have left?

I have 3 left. A+P 2, Microbiology, and Speech. I already had some of the pre-reqs covered from when I went to college 7 years ago.

It is frustrating about the GPA! I don't know what mine is because I'm still in my first classes at Waubonsee, but at JJC it was 3.7-- and I was young so I left early alot:lol2: Now I know I am getting one of the best grades in A+P 1. It's a hard class so alot of people have dropped and the teacher is recommending to some that they withdraw instead of getting a D or F.

Which classes available at WCC help towards a BSN?

My A&P1 was similar. By the end of the semester over 50% of the class had dropped.

I suggest taking chemistry, statistics, and nutrition for your BSN while you are waiting to get into the np. That is however, if you intend to do the NIU/WCC co-op for RN to BSN.
