Hello,

I just found this site a few days ago. I live in washington state, and am attended a community college, and was just accepted into the nursing program for this upcoming winter quarter. I am excited but scared as well.. what should i be expecting in general as far as classes, and clinicals.... Any experience you have had as a new student would be great. Thanks

Angela,

Welcome to the message boards! I also live in WA and am going to Shoreline Community College. I just am finished my 4th quarter.

Depending on your college, the courses are going to be intense but if you put your mind to studying appropriately, (some needs lots, other needs less time to study) you will be successful. Clinicals are the only place you will learn the valuable skills needed for the workplace. Take full advantage of them and let the nurses that you work with know how willing you are to learn new things.

Again, welcome to the board and look forward to seeing your posts!

Welcome Angela!! I just finished my first round of clinicals and I loved it. All I can say is don't be as nervous as I was (i was afraid to wake up my first patient). Realize that clinicals serve as a valuable experience and take full advantage of any opportunity that you have to try something new. Don't let yourself get overwhelmed, and take time to breathe. Your classes will probably be intense, but you can do it if you work hard enough! :D Good Luck!

Welcome Angela!! I also live in Washington state, and I'm starting a nursing program at a community college in Seattle in January. Good luck to you, and it's great to meet you!!

:angela, welcome!

hey angela! well... all i can say is that nursing school was not what i thought it would be, and if look over the posts you'll see it tends to be somewhat of a wild ride (to say the least).

i think what the others have said is very true ~ get the most you can out of clinicals and study hard for lecture. if you get profs that are on wierd power trips or you feel as though they don't want you to succeed, remember - never ever let a program beat you! beat it!!!:D

align yourself with others that are like minded, don't waste time on gossip, be prepared for strains at home (if you're married or have kids)

and always keep your eye on the prize!!!

(ok - that's it - i'm going to go hurl over all of the cheesy lines i just used - oy vey!)

hey...how do those of you that live in wa like it?

zacarias - i'll be starting the program at SCC in january :)

angela - i love living in western washington!! it's beautiful, and generally the people are pretty laid back and friendly. although i'll admit i'm starting to miss snowy winters...
