My husband and I just moved to Knoxville and we're looking for jobs. I'm noticing that the pay is a little lower than FL for RNs. I've been off since May and am starting to want to go back to work....HOLY CRAP!! what am I saying? It's true though, I miss my work. Nursing is the only job that I haven't dreaded getting up for. Somebody let me know what they think about their places of employment so I can get a feel for the area. I worked ICU in FL, but I'm thinking that a cushy endo gig wouldn't be that bad....HA.

I'm about an hour an a half southeast of Knoxville and two hours northwest of Chattanooga. The pay scale in Knoxville is lower than in Florida since there area more nurses here. I think the nursing shortage isn't as bad in Tennessee as other places. The pay scale in Knoxville is also lower than in Chattanooga. My last job was to the north of me which had more Knoxville type wages. I am now working about an hour to the south which is Chattanooga scale and it is much higher. There are lots of good hospitals in Knoxville. St Marys, UT, and Blount Memorial are my favorites.
Good luck!

Decoopa,
How are you liking Knoxville? I plan on moving there (from FL) next year. Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated!

Man, I believe everyone from Florida is headed to Tn. Seems everyone I run into is anyways. My hubby and I, our best friends and SEVERAL other friends are headed there within the next year.
As far as salaries go, I suppose it depends upon where you are coming from in Fl as to whether the salaries are that different. If you are coming from Pensacola area, you might find the salaries are even higher there than in Fl. Pensacola cost of living has doubled in the past few years but the salaries have stayed about the same. Cost of living in Tn (Kingsport anyways) is about half of what it is here and I am seeing jobs for higher than I am making here.
Personally, I'll just be glad to be back home. I sure have missed those georgous mountains. Especially lately.
Good luck all in your search for the right job. Tennessee is a great place to live. Oh, and no hurricaines or tornados. That's the best part

Sadly, we do have our fair share of tornadoes in Tennessee. We have several every year. I remember the ones that hit Nashville in April, 1998. Talk about a scary day!

Hey! :) I'm in Knoxville as well. I hope your move goes well. :)
Sorry, didn't mean to generalize Tn so much in that statement. :uhoh21: Was talking about the mountainous areas of east Tn. I always felt pretty sheltered there. I miss that.
