Hello Everyone:)

Hello Everyone,

My name is Jimmy, I'm 26 living in NY. I just wanted to stop in and say hi to everyone. As well as ask a few of you a question. It's a question that i can't seem to get a very clear answer on. My education:). I've been a restaurant manager for 8 years, I fell into it during HS, and made a decision as to my future:). Well, needless to say, I've made 2 decisions; 1 Restaurant Management is not what i want, 2 Nursing is what i'd like to pursue. With that said, what is the deal with the online courses, are they accepted? Are they legit? Especially Phoenix On-Line, have any of you graduated with an On-Line Degree? Did you have any problems finding a job, are there certain states, or jobs that will not accept an On-Line degree, if anyone knows of a site that could better answer these questions, or if any of you care to answer some/all of these questions for me, that would be great!!!:). Thanks for reading my thread, and hopefully talk to some of you in the near future.

Hello Jimmy,

Welcome to allnurses! You will find lots of good info here. As for online courses, i think most (depending on how recent) are acceptable. Classes that require labs (such as chem) may or may not be acceptable depending on your college. You might want to check out the distance learning forum as well. There is lots of wonderful resources in there.

Good luck to you!

HI Jimmy welcome, you will find this site an invaluable tool if nursing is the career path you are going to follow, i know i have. As far as online degrees I'm sure they are just as good as traditional. the only thing is I'm not sure if you know this but most online Nursing programs are for people who are already nurses, like Phoenix i think you have to already be an RN. And another one Excelsior, you have to be an LPN or Paramedic or Chiropractor in order to do their program.

Hi Jimmy I just wanted to say welcome! I'm not sure about the online courses, but you might be careful. Sometimes the credits won't transfer to other schools, should you want or need to transfer. Good luck and keep us posted on how it's going!

Welcome!

I gather you're under the impression that one can receive a nursing degree through online coursework only? To my knowledge, with the exception of a few programs which require you to be an LPN or paramedic already, you'll have to complete your last four semesters in a classroom/clinical environment.

That said, many places offer online courses for your prerequisites. Start with your local community college or 4-year college, and see what courses they require as prereqs and if any are available online.

University of Phoenix doesn't offer a nursing program. What they offer is an RN (ADN) to Bachelor of Science Nursing degree.
