  1. Hello Everyone, my name is Jimmy, i'm considering nursing as my chosen path for life. I've been a restaurant manager for most of my adult life. I'm 26 now, and honestly have just had enough. I've always been interesting in the medical field, so i'm doing some serious research into. My partner has some serious medical problems and is quite frequently in the ER at our local hospital, the reason i'm saying this is i've spent quite amount of time in the ER *being healthy that is*, and have gotten to know quite a number of the nurses, and got to so to speak watch them very closely when i 6 months ago expressed my interest, which leads me to where i am right now:). My question for you guys is, this Excelsior Program, from what i'm understanding you can get your Associates Degree online????? Then take the licensing test. *sorry don't recall the letters off the top of my head yet, no dis-respect*. Being that i am 26, need a job;), have a serious relationships, have pets, have a car payment, yadda yadda yadda. With all that said, is this program an alternative for me taking a nursing program at lets say a community college that offers that as a degree program, is this program a complete substitute for an "in class" degree program? I have read through alot of the threads, and did see many of your posts involving the "pro's and con's". I read them and respect them, and definitly understand them. The motivation to do what needs to be done, is atleast in my mind not going to be a problem, nor would be the state(S) that i'd be working in. Any input on any of my questions or comments would greatly be appreciated. I'm also in the process of going for my EMT-B, mainly cause i really enjoy the company that i volunteer with, but also the exposure that is being an EMT, or as i would think anywhere in the medical world. Thank you to all of you that have read this, and especially to all of you that take the time to respond. Jimmy
  2. Hello Everyone, My name is Jimmy, I'm 26 living in NY. I just wanted to stop in and say hi to everyone. As well as ask a few of you a question. It's a question that i can't seem to get a very clear answer on. My education:). I've been a restaurant manager for 8 years, I fell into it during HS, and made a decision as to my future:). Well, needless to say, I've made 2 decisions; 1 Restaurant Management is not what i want, 2 Nursing is what i'd like to pursue. With that said, what is the deal with the online courses, are they accepted? Are they legit? Especially Phoenix On-Line, have any of you graduated with an On-Line Degree? Did you have any problems finding a job, are there certain states, or jobs that will not accept an On-Line degree, if anyone knows of a site that could better answer these questions, or if any of you care to answer some/all of these questions for me, that would be great!!!:). Thanks for reading my thread, and hopefully talk to some of you in the near future.
