hi. i just want to know if you guys know any SITE where i can study ecg tracing reading and all bout the arrythmias and the management for it. i am so willing to know everything. coz recently i was assigned to be the defibrillator of the team but honestly, i dont have much knowledge on doing it. so i need your help fellow nurses on making me a sufficient nurse. please dont think that i am a poor or stupid nurse. i just need assistance. i havent done it yet so i really dont know. and my hospital experience is i think 4 mos so there's so many maNY things that i need to know. thanks nurses! hope you can help me. :)

If you go to www.rn.org site they have unlimited CEU's for $19.99 per year. They have a fairly wide variety of subjects and one of them is basic ECG interpretation. I found it best to print out the study material and then take the test. You might be able to do it without printing it out....but I'm older and really prefer study material I can hold in my hand. :D There are lots of basic subjects so you'll get your money's worth. I'm sure there are lots of resources but I have used this one. Good luck.

http://www.ecglibrary.com is a pretty good resource and it's free. I have "ecg interpretation made incredibly easy" and it is AWESOME. I got it for 1.12 on Alibris.com. It was used but I couldnt even tell.

I would take your ACLS, because defibrillation goes hand in hand with drugs and the course covers both.

I do not think that you are a poor or stupid nurse. You want to learn! That is the sign of a great nurse! We can't know everything. I am a tele and critical care nurse. The best place to find this information is not on any Web site, because this information can be confusing and unreliable. I looked some of them up! There are some Web sources where you can find practice problems. However, your best resources, before you visit any of these sites, is to visit a book store and find ecg books that will give you information on how to interpret apical and ventricular rates, complexes, arrythmias and management, and practice problems.

Some books I would recommend:

ECG Interpretation: A 2-in-1 Reference for Nurses (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins)

ECG Success: Exercises in ECG Interpretation (Shirley A. Jones, FA Davis)

ECG Workout: Exercises in Arrhythmia Interpretation (Jane Huff, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins)

In terms of tx. Any current ACLS manual has extensive info. You could even just purchase the quick algorithm pamphlet for simple and straight forward info without all the fluff.

And ask if you are responsible for a monophasic or biphasic defib. :)

Good Luck!

Rapid interpretation of EKG's by Dale Dubin, MD is in my opinion the absolute best book for learning EKG. It is the best book for self learning or learning in the classroom.

As for working the defib and knowing treatment, get your ACLS. It will teach you what to know. Btw, if I didn't have my ACLS, my hospital wouldn't let me use the defib.

You're not a stupid nurse! You know your weakness and are taking steps to improve - that's not stupid, it's very smart!

Basic ECG recognition takes repetitive practice. Any of the ECG books have pages upon pages of strips to practice identifying. The websites are similar. You need ACLS.
