Heavily Tättooed: Can I get into nursing???

Nurses General Nursing

So....... Im a 20 year old Male and would like to get into the nursing field. The thing is Ive got alot of tattoos. Starting from my shoulder all the way down to my wrist on both arms(called sleeves). Im just wondering if nurses can get away with wearing long sleeve shirts, or if I could even wear a white long sleeve under the nursing uniform. Do any of you wear long sleeves? Or any of your co-workers? Some honest advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

I can see why this would be an issue. You will probably have to cover them, a lot of employers require that now.

I saw a girl working at Home Depot the other day with sleeves and you could tell they had required her to cover them, it was 90 degrees and she had long sleeves on.

What about OR? Would they require him to cover them all the time?

If they're all the way down the arm, that might not be possible, especially if you're scrubbing. Our facility says "no visible" tattoos.

I work in long term care right now and the DON isn't too strict on tattoos. We have one LVN who has a huge tattoo on the back of her neck that wraps around the sides a little bit. She's trying to finish up some classes so she can apply to a bridge program. I don't have the guts to ask her what the heck she's gonna do about her neck. You can't see it when her hair is down but most nursing schools require hair off the collar.

As for me, both of mine are covered since I want to move in to my RN soon. I made a point of telling my tattoo artist to keep my back piece low enough so that it doesn't peek out when I wear scrubs.
