Health Care Resume for new CNA

Published

I am switching careers and just got my CNA license. What does one put on a health care resume if all of their previous experience was in another field? I'm a former journalist - trying to emphasize that I am experienced at working under deadline pressure and interacting with a wide variety of people.

Congratulations on your CNA license!

When I switched over from Graphic Design, I highlighted all the qualities that would also apply to being a CNA. For example, my previous career involved being very detail-oriented (helpful for charting and patient care), providing extensive customer service (always good to have no matter what the career), dealing with the public, and adapting quickly to new challenges.

I would also research the facilities you want to apply to and see what their needs are. For example, if the facility uses computer charting, highlight your computer skills.

I like your idea of putting in how you interact with a wide variety of people. That will definitely be to your benefit.

I wouldn't get stressed about the resume very much, as most facilities have computerized applications. Having said that, however, the resume will be very useful to you when you are filling the apps out.

Good luck in your new career!! :D

Thank you! That is very helpful.
