Health Care Reform

Published

I am currently going to school to change my career to nursing. Has anyone heard of the possible affects that this new health care reform could have on nursing?

Honestly, after sitting in on meetings that include 8 hospitals in my area, many state that is the reason that many of them are not hiring any new staff unless ABSOLUTELY necessary, especially nurses. While they cite the economy is currently the main reason for downturns in hiring, they have stated that it may effect careers in healthcare in a more long term sense. I have felt that this has been a big issue, although many right now only consider the economy. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

Read a news report stating that home health nurses are likely to be paid less due to cost cutting measures.

Noone knows. Noone really has any idea of how this bill is going to affect the system. Anyone who tells you differently is lying. But chances are, it's not going to make things any easier on us.

Theres an entire forum dedicated to this topic if you'd like to discuss it further. https://allnurses.com/social-health-care/

Short term (1-4 yrs) it will probably constrict prospects for new nurses, (hospitals loathe uncertainity) but after the laws actually start to take effect there will be a signifcant increase in demand for nurses. However I wishfully believe the demand will not be for acute in patient care. The emphasis will trend toward primary care/ chronic disease management.

With all due respect, that's nothing more then speculation. Even if you could predict the effects this current senate bill would have, it varies from the house. And then if/when they come to a stage where they have to mesh them together, noone's quite sure yet what form that will take.

All we really have is the hope that the government knows what it's doing and will get it right.

Nurses are nurses and everybody needs them. I don't think it will be much harder to find a job if it passes as it is now.

I'm still not sure why people in the states are thinking about reformed health care. I wouldn't even hesitate to say yes to it. The poeple who may be out of work arre the insurance company employees. It's time you moved from the 37th spot and up further on the who health care scale. I know you have wonderful health care institutions and do offer great care for those who can afford it. I'm pretty happy with the health care in Canada, we need some tweaking but would not want to change it to cost based system. You also need to fix your mat leave. 6 weeks is not enough, the longer the mther can be with the baby, especially with breast feeding the better the immune system and overall health, thus saving more money. Gotta stop thinking left or right and focus on the issue. Anyhow, I hope you guys decide to go through with it.

I am not opposed to the IDEA of health reform, but I do not trust Obama to get it right. I believe he is using this platform to buy votes. Also, I live on a border state and am not excited AT ALL about paying for aliens to have free health care. In the USA we tend to think big govt is not a great thing. The more they can give you the more they can take away.

Hey, our northern friend......what do you pay in taxes to support your brand on medical care?
