HCA drug testing policy

Published

Hi all. I was wondering if any HCA nurses (specifically in the Houston area) know if HCA drug tests for tobacco/nicotine. I quit vaping last week but am not sure if they will even test for nicotine or if I will pass if they do test me. I can't find anything online about their policy. TIA!

I've never heard of HCA testing for nicotine. Keep in mind that all divisions of HCA can have some deviation in certain policies form each other. In my experience though, healthcare systems that test for nicotine in pre-employment screens make it well known up front that they do. So, if you've not heard from them that they do, then you're probably good.

I would just ask tbh. I’m a smoker and I’m not proud of that, but I don’t feel it’s a deep, dark secret that anyone should have to hide. During these times, it amazes me that anyone can afford to pass on a good nurse because of a nicotine habit!

Hello! To answer your question simply, no HCA does not test employees for nicotine for pre employment. They just have you sign an affidavit during open enrollment for benefits saying if you use nicotine products or not. If you put no you get a discount on health insurance but they will not not hire you bc of nicotine. Don’t stress you’re all good! :)

Does anyone know if St. Luke’s nicotine tests? I’ve already had my urine drug screen at quest.
