Hello all,
I have applied to various hospitals for their new grad programs and have not received any response yet from anyone and it's been almost a month. I have contacted human resources and have either not gotten a response yet, or was told the same old "we are waiting for the managers to tell us who they are interested in". In this situation is the best way to get my foot in the door to being interviewed to call the managers directly and speak to them? If so what is the best approach to take with them?

I would contact HR and ask if you could set up a time to job shadow in what ever depts you are interested in. That way if you work well with the staff and impress them--then they will let HR know they are interested in you---that may get the ball rolling faster.
Also a good idea so that you can see if that is really a floor you really want to work on--each floor has their own feel and flow about it. For instance Peds at one facility may not be like peds at another.

I'm in those shoes myself. The only people that seem to have jobs lined up are those in PCA/PCT positions where they are moving directly onto thier unit.

Do any of the health systems in your area have job fairs? If they do, this is a great way to meet several managers from different units. Also, job shadowing shows you are interested and is a great way to get your foot in the door.:heartbeat
We had our job fair in February. We've also had recruiters in.
However, following business protocol hasn't worked in either of these venues. There are several pushy classmates that monopolize recruiters until the recruiters themselves are looking for the door. By the time they are done, the recruiters don't seem to want stay any longer--we get handed cards as they pack up.
I think the shadowing is a great idea. I'll make some calls this week. Thanks!
