  1. Thank you all so much for your feedback and advice. I apprecaite it and I think I will know now to move on as soon as this behavior ever happens again. Thanks.
  2. I am trying to get a perspective on how to deal with situations like this in the future. I was working with a preceptor who just had it in for me. I don't know what it was that she didn't like about me but she treated me horribly and constantly tried to make snide remarks to me. She talked down to me and needless to say we didn't work together for long. I found out that behind my back she was writing all sorts of notes on me on just plain old notebook paper. Not the preceptor evaluation sheets- notebook paper, about just random things she didn't like about me in such a format as "RN did ...." And they were small random situations that had nothing to do with nursing. She twisted these things around to try to make me look really bad. I found it very strange and she gave this to management without even telling me. Why are there nurses out there like this? What can I do next time in this situation to alleviate myself in the most professional way?
  3. Hello all, I have applied to various hospitals for their new grad programs and have not received any response yet from anyone and it's been almost a month. I have contacted human resources and have either not gotten a response yet, or was told the same old "we are waiting for the managers to tell us who they are interested in". In this situation is the best way to get my foot in the door to being interviewed to call the managers directly and speak to them? If so what is the best approach to take with them?
  4. Hey! Does anyone out there work on a "General Medicine unit" I take it that this is not the same as a med/surg floor and would think it is not as stressful. What are the patients typically like? Is this a good place for a new nurse to develop nursing skills? Thanks!
  5. I am considering working at the private psych facility West Oaks Hospital in Houston, TX. Does anyone know anything about this hospital? Even anything you have heard about this psych hospital would be helpful. PMs welcome. Thanks.
  6. I have currently been employed at a hospital for about 8 months. Shortly after I graduated I was a nurse extern and then I moved on to becoming an RN. I have worked as an RN for about 4 months and realize that this hospital and unit is not for me. There has been a lot of drama and difficulty with some of my coworkers and my manager and I do not feel comfortable putting this job on my resume and do not know how I will reconcile this on my resume or in interviews to future potential employers. I would be grateful to any advice out there.
  7. I know exactly what you are going through. The same stuff has happened to me, with preceptors who focus on all the negative. People need to give constructive criticism and allow others to make mistakes. My advice would be to just stay professional and focus on her corrections that pertain to patient safety. You will have to read in between the lines of what she is saying and ask yourself, does this make sense, is it valid? Or is she just getting on you. Hopefully it will work out.
  8. When I was in nursing school the instructors had us practice on each other with injections (IM, SubQ, Sub-dermal) and with IVs in order to check off on our skills. It turned out fine for me but I don't know what happened with other students.
  9. I am getting really annoyed with certain nurses who have been extremely stand offish and unwelcoming to me in a very obvious way. I barely know these other RNs being that I just started working on this unit. The other thing that annoys me even more is that one of them is also new to the unit but kisses up to the other RNs just begging for a pat on the back and she is the absolute worst with constantly giving me rude looks and asking me intrusive questions as if she has any room to talk down to me as a fellow newbie. What is the best way to approach this?
