Worked in a facility where the management hired basically anybody and didn't have any credentials? I worked at a facility where I got min wage for being a CNA, and a girl who wasn't one was asking me about putting ted-hose on a resident, and I said read the company policy handbook, it states that the med tech should do that. In my mind I was thinking if you had gone to CNA school you would know your scope of practice. It just really frustrates me to see companies willing to hire people that do not have the proper education and put them to work with elderly people that have dementia, granted I do not like seeing people without jobs but I believe you need to have the education to do the job.

I agree...but at the ltc I worked at...as a cna we put the ted hoses on...not the med tech.
It was the company policy that said the med tech had to do the ted hose.

I would be thrilled with a CNA who cared enough to ask about TEDs- even if it wasn't their role to place them in that particular facility.
She wasn't a CNA though, and I mean I explained to her what they were but at the same time it would make more sense to me to hire somebody with the right education.
I'm curious now...what was she?
I admit that I don't have the company policies memorized at my place of employment. That would take up way too much space in my already overstuffed brain.
She was just a high school graduate, cause she went to the same high school as me, but she never did the CNA program. The company hires anybody basically, thats why they gave all patient care assistants minimum wage.
I agree. I know of a lot of places here in TN that hire employees without the proper training that are trained on the job then test for the cert within 3-6 mo. I personally don't mind teaching especially if they ask. I don't think I would have told her to read the policy though. I wouldve told her the med tech is the one who performs that.
I did tell her that it was the med-tech's job to do that, but also for her further reference we keep binders full of useful information that tells us what we can and can't do. I was only PRN at that job so I never really saw her that much and she was a full-time employee so I figured she would know more of what she can do in her job.
