Hello, everybody!
i am a Chinese student who is now studying in a Cali college, i am applying for the SSN which can only work in school but not outside school.
Can this SSN be used for applying for RN of America? Which state will be easy to apply?
(in fact, i am applying for the NY RN which does not need SSN, but my nursing school can not receive the documents from CGFNS, so i wanna to give up and apply another state...)
thx.

As far as I know, an SSN is an SSN, regardless of whether used on the job or elsewhere.
The big issue is gaining the legal right/Visa status to work in the USA, beyond the OPT period

No - if you are on F1 student visa status, your SSA card will say "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION" which means you need to show your visa also to establish eligibility to work. F1 visas have strict work criteria - usually max 20hrs per week on campus. I would recommend you speak to your International Student Office at your university for further advice.
What are you studying? Are you already an RN somewhere else or studying nursing now? I don't really understand your situation.

I am studying health care in Cali now. I am already an RN in China and have graduated from a Chinese college specialising in nursing.
I want to get the Cali RN certificate and apply the exam with my Chinese RN certificate and Chinese education before I graduate from this Cali college. So i can have more chances to get a job.
As a foreign applicant who wants to apply Cali RN must have SSN, so i am confused whether my SSN is vaild?

That means I can use the SSN to apply a RN examination, right?

Your SSN will be ok to use with application however the difficulty will be finding employer willing to wait the x amount of years for you to get your immigration visa allowing you to work.
What does "studying healthcare" mean?
You don't need a SSN to apply for CA nursing licensure (which is what you're applying for; the NCLEX exam is just one step in that process). You need the SSN to be granted the CA nursing license. Yes, once you have a SSN you have it for life and that is the number you'd use for your CA application. As mentioned above though, you can't do anything with your license unless you have work authorization.

CA no longer accepts applications without a US SSN
