Have you gained weight ?

when i first started this job i was 155 lbs and still trying to lose weight ( only about 10-15lbs), now two in half years later into this job i've gained 17 lbs and now i have to lose my original 10-15lbs over top of 17 lbs. now i'm not blaming my job for my weight gain i'm just saying that its personally hard for me to lose weight working here.

it seems like every other day we have food in the lounge. cakes, cookies, pies, bagels, sodas, you name it we got it. i do keep healthy snacks in my mini fridge , however i rather indulge in moist cake then a dried up granolar bar !

we also have a huge breakfast every other week, soup and salad club every week, and order out every friday.

on top of eating so much, i'm sitting at my desk the majority of the day and thus not being very active. my cholesterol has gotten high, and my weight is getting out of control. i'm overweight and i know it... now its time to put a stop to this. :scrying:

my last day at work is coming up soon, however no matter what i do i need to learn how to turn away from the donuts, cakes, muffins, pies, pizza, staff lunches, staff breakfasts , and etc.

so did any one else gain weight while working ?

Yes I did but only in the last 3 years. This is when we were unable to order out anymore and had to either bring our food or eat in the lunchroom. I started eating our "healthy lunchroom food(no salt, sugar etc) and have gained 30 pounds! We have very strict rules that our snacks have to go by and I just cannot seem to get it together to get myself and 3 kids out the door and fix my lunch every day.

I have started today and my goal for the summer is to lose weight by being more active. I do not like what I see when I look in the mirror and I am ready for a change!

I'm ready for a change too. I was ready to start today until I got to work and started eating handfuls of Hershey's kisses.

I guess can start over starting now ! No more hershey kisses for the remainder of the work day !

Yes, I've gained about 30lbs since starting a year ago. *EEK*

Going from a busy ER where I was lucky to get to scarf down a lunch to a desk job is not a good change. :lol2:

I drink a whole bottle of water when I am tempted, this does not always stop me from indulging but my belly is full after just a small amount of food. This only works with water that is ambient temperature as you cannot down water at 45 degrees without brain freeze or an upset stomach. Try this before every meal and snack, with in 4 weeks, your pants will be loose!

Thanks ! I got my bottled water right here.

OMG!! I hate to admit it, but I gained somewhere between 75 and 80 pounds my first year! Still working on taking that off and have about 60# off so far. (Thanks to lap-band surgery). It still isn't easy, but at least now, I couldn't eat a whole donut even if I wanted to. It really is different, and I have started just walking around campus for no particular reason and that has helped some, but first I had to get some of the weight off just to have the energy to do that. I guess the activity decrease and the availability of food my first year really got to me. Well, now some of the staff are calling me "the incredible shrinking nurse" that feels good, but I have a really long way to go. One day at a time.

Good for you !!! You are an inspiration !

but you'll be running to pee way more.

Also, take the stairs at every opportunity. Don't wait for the elevator unless transporting a pt. You may think that going down the stairs is a waste but it actually elongates your calve muscles as you control your steps. Hold in your belly for the entire time going down but remember to breath and you will have your Ab workout for the day after 3 or 4 different trips.

After lunch/dinner--if you get a break-- climb the stairs for 5 minutes, see what floor you get to, come back down. The next break you get--next day, same day, whatever--time yourself and see if you get higher in the same 5 minute time period. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

Challenge your coworkers to help you. MOVE THE CHOCOLATE drawer! I could never sit and take report with chocolate looking at me all day! Offer your coworkers a home cooked meal/ shots after work/ whatever appeals-- after you lose 10 pounds, after EACH 10 pound weight loss. They will really help you then! They may even join you!
