Hi all, My 2 year old cat had a urinary obstruction this weekend. He was in the hospital until Monday afternoon with a catheter and IV fluids. I worked Monday night but he had supervision at home. He still is pretty under the weather. So I called off sick for tonight. I couldn't imagine leaving him by himself for 14 hours.

I feel guilty for not going to work, but I think I would have felt worse leaving him and worrying about him all night. Can anyone relate?

To get a list of all the recalled foods to date go to http://avma.org/aa/menufoodsrecall/products.asp or to http://www.avma.org and follow the links. You can also go to the parent internet site of the pet food manufacturer to see if more products are affected It seems like more are being recalled every week.

I'm glad to hear that your kitty is doing better BSN Grad. Hopefully he will continue to improve. Keep in mind that once this happens it can happen again. Several years ago, one of my cats became obstructed. His was caused from a calicium oxalate plug instead of the more common struvite plug. This is why a UA should be done because sometimes you are surprised. So now I feed him to keep his urine to a more alkaline to neutral ph. I also give him canned food and have a pet water fountain to increase his water intake. I have also controlled his food intake because overweight felines have more of a tendency to become obstructed because anatomy issues. This guy will be 16 years old in October and he is doing well.

OH my.. I have had to do that, fortunately at only working insurance job and a student.. Wouldnt however had much choice even if I was a nurse, my daughters horse went down at home, somewhat fortunately the ex BF was home and at least called me. Just a mild case (luckily) of colic but since bf:trout: is useless he would have been really bad when I did get home from work. bad belly ache === lots of walking.!!

Also once for a puppy I had just a month, vet said he had Parvo, probably because mom hadnt been vaccinated, I got the lecture on not taking a free puppy at the grocery store. :( I tried hard to save him, trying to get pedialite into him but 2 days no avail. Wont take a free puppy again without proof of vacations of both mom and baby.. sad days!!

I have called out of work due to my cat being sick. It was quite funny because my supervisor was a cat person. She was extremely concerned. More than when I have been sick.......

I sure did. Granted I wasn't working as a nurse, but as a Health Claims Analyst for an Insurance Company.

My beloved dog was dx'd with Lymphoma and given 2-6wks to live. During that time I called "in sick" a few days, on days she wasn't seeming to be doing too well. She made it to the 6wk mark to the day when i had to put her down. I called in sick. (I work from home but I still have to follow the same protocol as those in-house) My employeer (small company) knew my dog was terminal and how I was devoted to her. I was too devestated to even think about working the day we did it. My company was very understanding and told me to take all the time i needed. The owner was even going to let me take berevement pay since when my grandfather and grandfathers-in-law, and my uncle passed, I never took the berevement time I was in work for my scheduled days. I was appreciative of his offer but declined.

and I would do it again in a second if one of my dogs were that ill that I was fearful of the outcome if I were to leave them alone.

i would absolutly call in for one of my many pets. :1luvu: i would tell them i had to take off for personal reasons. if you have the pto it shouldn't be a problem, of course it depends on the ppl you work with. some ppl can be prunes. :chuckle

i love my pets very much. i could not have children. my pets were my children, as crazy as it sounds. we finally adopted a little girl (age 4 1/2). she is our world. never the less i still love my pets!!!!!:paw:
