Have BS+MBA - Want BSN in ILLINOIS

Published

I currently have a BS in Chemistry + Biology, an MBA, worked in a pharmacy for almost a decade, and now I do sales. My pay now is good, but that really isn't as important to me as helping people. That is the thing that really made me happy about working in the pharmacy. I really think that Nursing would be the best long term career goal for me. My wife is pregnant and due early next year ... So, I have to work full-time with my current sales job. I live in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago IL. Can someone recommend a nursing program for me that works around my job schedule? I work between 11am and 9pm Tues through Sat and there really is no way to change it. Thank you so much for any input!

Nobody has any suggestions for me at least? I really appreciate any input. Thanks

I think that your current restrictions would pretty much rule out any sort of pre-licenensure nursing education. I have never heard of any program that didn't include activities (class or clinicals) during your current work hours. Of course, you could go ahead and take pre-requisites, but once you get accepted into a program, your schedule would have to be altered to match those requirements. Accelerated BSN programs & Direct-entry Master's programs are so intense that it is impossible to during this time. So, you may just not be able to move ahead until your personal situation becomes more flexible.

I am aware of one community college in my state for people such as you. It is a 4 year program with classes from 6-9pm two nights a week and clinicals on the weekend (Sunday 0700-1600). But this is a program that awards an associate's degree only after 3.5-4 years of study.

I agree with HouTx that you are going to have a very hard time to locate a pre-licensure program around your work schedule.
