Has anyone taken BIO at CCConline?

Has anyone taken BIO-111 at CCConline? I am wondering how the lab part works. I took it through here because it was full at Front Range and I need it to take 201 and 202. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am starting to worry about it. Thanks!

As an advisor you have to look at every single one of the 1,000+ transcripts you receive every year, that's on top of the transcripts that you read from people who don't apply and just want you to look over their grades. You get to intricately know what every course is in Colorado, but you also get to know the courses of other schools. We have meetings with other schools about their pre-req classes from all over America. You all aren't realizing how in-depth the system is. If there was a class that was not clear, we go have catalogues from every major college in Colorado and we look at the course descriptions, my former partner Julie Rodriguez and I at CU Denver Anschutz would also go to the school's websites and check the courses. The process is highly competitive, so naturally we look very closely at the classes you take.

When you receive official transcripts it does say OL, here is a direct copy from my CU transcript from the Pinnacle, note how it denotes correspondence classes or online classes:

If the course description or course number does not say OL, it will say in the course title Online.

The only reason why I'm telling you is because I don't want you to have wasted effort, these classes take time and money and I'd hate for you to have to redo them.

I can imagine it would be very challenging at times during application season, especially with all the various schools around the state and the country, let alone internationally!

Our schools apparently record classes differently on the transcripts, and we are specifically talking about CCCOnline classes here.... which are not offered at CU, just the community colleges. After your post, I was concerned my efforts would be wasted as well, hence the reason I had an official transcript sent to me, I wanted to see what CU would see.

Here is how I am coming to my conclusion that ccconline pre-requisite classes are accepted by CU's nursing program. Using Bio 201 as an example, it is a State Guaranteed Transfer Course. As my CC catalog states "In December 2005, the Colorado Commission on Higher Education established a statewide transfer policy for general education course credits." On CU's College of Nursing website under 'Transfer Courses From Colorado Colleges' there is a link to 'Colorado Community Colleges' specifically. This page lists the GT approved courses, such as Bio 201, from the Colorado Community College System (I see only 2 exceptions to this, Nutrition HWE 100, and the alternative microbiology 208-5 which aren't GT classes). I am making the conclusion (which I believe to be a logical one) that since Bio 201 is a GT course and it appears under the CU page as satisfying the requirements, it is accepted. As for being online, nowhere, either on the GT info page or on CU's pre-req page, does it state that online classes offered through the Colorado Community College System are not accepted. I do not believe a class could be offered under the GT Pathway if offering it online negated that fact.

I have also not found any information on CU's College of Nursing site that states online pre-requisite classes are not accepted. If you find one, please share it. This fact, along with Dr. G.P. telling all of us who attended the info session that online classes were accepted, is good enough for me. I'm not worried about it. I guess I'll find out in March if it's acceptable to them or not, lol!

Have you applied to the Nursing program Nurse2bNichol or at CU finishing up your pre-reqs? Just wondering. :)

I have applied to the nursing program already, but I have also been an advisor for CU Boulder and then for CU Denver @ Anschutz for 5 years. I feel like I am getting a lot of conflicting information from my professional contacts and from what I read here. I became an advisor because I like helping students, so of course if you can take the online classes at CCC online and have them transfer, I think that's great! It may also be that only the pharmacy program and the medical program don't take these online classes, whereas my colleagues in nursing do. To eliminate any further confusion I am just going to talk with them tomorrow when I'm in the Ed buildings. So far on the nursing website the only thing I have found is it says that you may not take any more than 30 credits as correspondence or extension (meaning online or something else I think).

Here is what it says exactly

"Correspondence, Extension

A maximum of 30 semester hours of correspondence, extension, credit may count toward the degree. Correspondence and extension credit must meet the guidelines for transfer of college level credit and are subject to review."

That would be great L&DRN2010! Would you please ask them about the GT courses?

And thank you for the link. It would be so nice to have something laid out in plain English, only 30 credit hours for correspondence, extension or online classes, etc. I knew a school that had correspondence classes that weren't online, go figure!

I look forward to hearing what they have to say! :)

I have applied to the program, I also applied to Regis, Metro, DSN, UNC, University of South Dakota and University of Wyoming. In all of my advising meetings...they've always said online classes weren't accepted so I really want to know what they say about them.

This cannot be accurate about UNC. Not only do they accept online classes from the community colleges of Colorado, they list on their website several online alternatives in out-of-state programs that they also accept. I've had my transcript evaluated by them, in person, by two separate advisors. Online prerequisites fulfilled through the community colleges are absolutely accepted.

But if anyone is concerned about this issue, all they have to do is contact the admissions office of the program in which they are interested. I'm glad we have Allnurses to help one another, but it never substitutes for a discussion with the school itself.

I was never talking about UNC, Regis, U of WY or U of SD, I was only referring to CU Denver at Anchutz as not accepting online classes.

Additionally, I was only referring to the classes with labs. It was my understanding that CU Denver does not accept Biology, Chemistry or A & P I or II online.

I just spoke with Connie, the S-Z advisor at the College of Nursing at CU Denver and she said they do take the CCC online courses.

I am so glad we have this clear now! And I really wish I would have taken some of my pre-reqs online now instead of killing myself 5 nights a week to do it on campus. Oh well, it's over now and that's all that matters.

Fantastic News Nurse2bNichol :yeah: Thank you for asking and getting the final word on it!! Now, we just need to get accepted! Good luck to you!! :)

I've taken classes through CCCOnline.

If your school accepts them, they are great classes to take. I haven't taken Bio 111 through there (in fact, I skipped that class and got an instructor to sign off on me taking 201 directly) but I took A&P II, Micro and Patho online with CCCOnline. The lab kits are indepth and were really fun to do with my family. It's also fun to do them whenever you want and I didn't have to put up with lab partners!!! Good luck on your studies!

CBsMommy- Do you mind sharing which community college/instructor signed off on your taking 201 directly? (you can PM me if you'd like) I have been trying to find someone who will allow me to go directly into the A&P class.

Thanks!
