It has been almost 10 yrs since I took the exam, but I am sure that it still kicks butt. I took a review course, and had both books you mentioned. It is a comprehensive test and I would really suggest knowing pathophysiology when reading strips...it gets pretty indepth. Breastfeeding questions on there, meds, you name it, its there. The good thing is, at least when I got my results, it gave you a breakdown of what areas you did well in and what you did not do well in, or need improvement on.
Good luck to you both on the exams. I take the EFM added qualification exam next month also. I am taking a review course before hand to be fresh.
Do you take the EFM certification course through NCC as well? I've just started pursuing certification because I know you have to have two years of full time experience and I'm still not at two years full time yet. I've been a nurse for just over two years though not full time some of the time.
I have taken the EFM Exam, it was difficult and went very in-depth, luckily I did pass the first try. Lots of questions related to pathophys and meds on that Exam.
As far as the Inpt OB Exam goes, I will continue to study these text books I have, and then I plan to do at least one practice exam online that the NCC offers (for a $45 fee) before I take the actual exam. I think that is really all I can do!
As far as hours go, I believe the requirements for any of the NCC Exams is either >2000 hours, or >2400 hours in the specialty area, I can't remember which.
I took the OB Cert. test last Dec. and I passed first time. It was hard.I took a review class that I thought was very helpful. The easy questions are easy but the hard questions were tough. I had a lot of blood gas questions which I have a very hard time with.I would def. recommend a class or study group.
Good Luckl

I was wondering if anyone out there has recently taken the NCC Certification Exam for Inpatient OB? (to become an RNC) I am taking the exam at the end of September and would love any information or advice on what to expect. I have two books and I am studying, Core Cirriculum for Maternal-Newborn Nursing (recommended for review class) and Manual of Obstetrics (recommended by NCC - along w/study guide).
Any suggestions on what areas I should concentrate on? Were there any unexpected topics covered on the test? Was the test made up of NCLEX style questions? I have also heard that many people do not pass the first time they take the exam, is that true? If so, why??? I am doing everything I can to prepare, so again, any info or advice would be greatly appreciated!
