I do chart review for my hospital in Michigan. Michigan is involved in a project called Keystone through the Michigan Hospital Association. We have seen an increase in Meconium but our nicu admissions for late preterm infants has greatly decreased. We have had not NICU admissions for mec aspiration.

Co-sleeping?
I recently did some research on this topic. 2,700 infants each year die form co-sleeping, from parents rolling over on them. only 2,300 infants die each year from sids. In my years working in ob over 20, I have had 4 families suffer a loss related to co-sleeping. I stress no co-sleeping with my families.

Nurses showing up late for work.
I work in a unionized hospital but we still have rules for being late. 7 times in a year verbal warning, 8 times is written warning, 9 times is 3 day suspension, and 10 times is ternination. Many people do not like this rule, but people are not late. They will be forgiven if there are extenuating circumstances, snow storm, flat tire, ect

Scd
I have been trying to do some research on dvt prevention in post partum c-section mothers and gyne pt's. We have a doctor that insists that scd be worn all the time during to hospitalization, the only exception is when the pt is ambulating, if in the chair, on, if sitting on the edge of the bed, on. The patients want to be able to move about freely and feel tied down. We have these pts out of bed usually with in 6hrs of surgery. This doctor tried the heparin thing and ended up with a big clot and return to OR. So my question is how long do you make the pt wear scd after they are up ad lib or ambulating in the hall 2 to 3 times a day? My other concern is if a pt is up ad lib and forgets that the scd's are on and takes off walking maybe holding her baby then falls.

LOW patient satisfaction scores...
Our hospital used to have press gainey do our surveys, we have since changed to (PRC) Professional Research Consultants. Since the change our scores seem to reflect better the care we give. The OB dept that I work in has won an award for the highest satisfaction scores that PRC surveys, in the 90%. Members of our team will be going to Baltimore to recieve the award
