I am going to be starting comparative religions in 2.5 weeks and I'm wondering what the course is like. I know it involves field trips, but that's all I know about it. I just read the first chapter of my text; "Experiencing the World's Religions" and it seems a bit deep! I'm hoping the instructor gives out really good study guides. He's got really good ratings on ratemyprofessor.com, so that's promising :). This is an accelerated class, only 6 weeks, so that freaks me out a bit. I'm used to taking 8 week classes, so I hope this isn't that much more difficult.

Usually the comparative religion classes are really interesting. One of my friends just took the class. Her instructor was a Southern Baptist pastor who just started his own church and taught part-time. He used the class as a recruiting ground for new church members. When the topic of Asian religions came up he said "now those Oriental religions are just bizarre. Let's skip it." He also said Buddhists are usually mentally ill.
Anyway...I don't mean to go on. Just be really glad that you have a good instructor. I wouldn't be worried that it's an accelerated class. Most people enjoy this class a bit if they are open minded and curious.

Glad I am not in his class (Southern baptist). Wow, I would really have a problem paying for a class that was recruiting ground for his church. This would be huge problem for me. Now if he covered all religions, and kept his opinion out of it, I might find it interesting. Other wise, a real problem!!!

I took it during the spring. It was really interesting...I enjoyed it. And its not quite as deep as it seems...
Did you have to write a lot of papers?
I only had to write one paper at the end of the semester, but it really depends on the teacher.
