PlEASE HELP! I'm seeking advice from any LVN or RN that has been aproved after being diagnosed with bipolar. I was diagnosed as a teen, and sought treatment for 5 years. During that time I felt that I wasn't really gaining anything from the meds, except the weight. I have not taken any meds for 3+ years and have been fine since. Since enrolling in school, I have been seeing a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist feels I was misdiagnosed. She feels that I may have been depressed, but that I am a well functioning adult. I went through school with awesome grades, and have the support of my instructors. I'm still scared. Please tell me that someone has been approved.

I am curious about the same thing. I had to check yes on my RN application and I am so scared right now that after going through all of this, I won't receive my RN.

I interviewed a psycologist for a paper in high school and she told me that MANY people from the medical community such as nurses, therapists even MDs have different mental illnesses (bi-polar, OCD, depression ect) and as long as they are well managed conditions they have no problems going to school and becoming nurses ect! So I would not worry, a lot of people out there have been on some sort of anti depressent or something in their lives! Good luck!

Yea, I'm scared as well. I'm going to the doctor on Monday to see if i have anxiety and depression issues. If I do, do I have to report it to my boss? I've been an LPN for 4 years.

I would talk to a doctor about your current condition. Try to get a letter from the doctor stating their professional diagnosis that you are ok and able to carry out the normal functions of your job. This is at least how they handle it for people trying to get into the military via medical waivers. Not sure how it works, but I imagine this some type of paper trail proof you could use to appeal to the board just in case. Good luck.

The only way anyone would know u are on depression meds is if you tell them. Many nurses are on antidepressants and that doesnt mean you wont be a good nurse. u are probably more compassionate and sensitive so that will only make you a more caring nurse:yeah:
