Has anyone heard about TravMed USA?

Hi y'all! Has anyone heard of TravMed USA? I am from the Philippines and I have signed a contract with TravMed USA. I have already been issued my visa and am now patiently waiting for the schedule of our deployment. What bothers me is that they do not contact us (nurses) directly by phone or e-mail. They only leave a word for us through our local agency. They did not bother to inform me if they have sent my Stateboard application. I still have to take the Stateboard unlike other Filipino nurses who has been sponsored to take the Stateboard in Saipan by their American employers.

What type of Visa have you been issued? Do you already have a Visa Screen Certificate? I hope that you haven't signed with one of those companies that will place you essentially as a "slave"---can't think of a better word for it......hope that it isn't so.

I've been issued an immigrant visa already which would expire soon. Unfortunately, I have signed already an employment agreement with TravMed. When I arrive in the States, I will be working as a nursing aid while I will wait fro the Stateboard exam date. In the agreement it is stated that I receive $7.28/hr as a nursing aid. How can we live through that salary? Anyway thanks for taking time to read/ reply this post. :)

This is the type of contract that I am talking about. It is essentially "slave labor" and none of you should ever accept a contract like that. I don't care what anyone else tells you, or even the agency for that matter. Yes, you are right, how can you live on that wage? You are better off in your own country working for a smaller salary than trying to get by on that in the US.

If you go down the list of all of the forums, after the student section, you will see a section on International.........drop by, we always have interesting topics.

Which country are you from? Have you taken your series of Englsih exams yet? You need those for working in the US as a nurse. AS well as a Visa Screen Certificate to be able to apply for a change in status as a nurse when the time comes. Unfortunately, you have added several years to your plan..

I am from the Philippines. Yes, I have already passed the TOEFL and TSE examinations and I have with me an original copy of my Visa Screen Certificate.

It sounds quite odd that you haven't applied to a state for licensure yet......

I will be under contract with them for 3 years. They will be the one to apply for the licensure for us when we get there so I guess they'll make us work as a low-paying nursing aid while waiting for the exam. :crying2:

Do you have any idea about when you will be coming over and where you will be going?

Remember that it takes on average minimum of four months to receive the ATT letter, then to take the NCLEX exam, then receive the Visa Screen Certificate will be at least another four months.

So you are looking at well over one year before you will be able to work asd an RN. Will your salary go up then, or do they consider you to be under training then? That is also another thing to consider..........

Our tentative date of deployment would be on April 5th. I will be going straight to North Carolina (Charlotte) where their office is located. They will provide us with a housing but in my case, I have a family who will be coming over, I would get an apartment for us. Honestly I don't have any idea how much is the rent of a 1-bedroom apartment in NC. We do not even have relatives or friends there. If we could afford it, I plan to apply for licensure by myself. By the way, I already have a Visa Screen Certificate. I received it months after I passed the last english exam I took.

Your biggest problem is that you are locked into a contract with them. No way out of it unless you are willing to pay a large fee.
