Has anyone heard CNA IIs may replace LPNs in NC??

Published

I went to my first CNA class yesterday (I get points for nursing school for being a CNA) and the instructor told us that NC is considering doing away with LPNs and replacing them with CNA IIs. She didn't have any further info but, I thought I would share this just incase any one here knows more.

I could not agree with you more barefootlady! Since I have moved here to NC, I have been shocked and amazed about how the LPN is treated. The mere fact that a CNA II even exists is amazing to me. In Florida, the BON and the nurses have consistently fought the implementation of the CNA II level as well as the medication aide. Quite frankly, in this day and age of debates about entry level into nursing - whether an RN should be called an RN when they have an ADN degree, and then there are States like NC that allow a CNA II level. No wonder nursing has no real collaborative power with other members of the health care team. Heck, the other members of the health care team are just as confused as the nurses are ..... this level can do this and this level can do that .... etc .... it all really gives me a big headache!

I have posted on another thread about the role of the LPN and have asked a number of questions about LPN practice in NC. You have answered a number of questions, but you are located in WV. Nonetheless, I am sure a NC LPN will come along and give me some answers, but suffice to say, the LPN should be able to do many of the things that my hospital is telling them they can't do and conversly, should be doing less of the things that the hospital tells them they can do. It is very confusing and my goal is to get a good model for our LPN's - so they can practice to their full scope and within the structural policy of the hospital.

Thanks for your feedback.

Thank you so much for keeping this forum updated with APPROPRIATE ACCURATE information! I am astonished that my college instructors would passing this info on and not check it out first which is why I posted here. Something just didn't "feel" right about that info when it was given to the class of 20.

I love this board and I am thankful for the resources AKA fabulous people here in the NC forum! I look forward to working side by side with ya'll as a peer some day!

PS-Pat watch out. I could go to Mission from Murphy but, I'll be the CNA/LPN/ADN that knows what I can and can not do LOLOLOL:rotfl:
