Has anyone graduated from Excelsior College? Need advice

Published

Hi All,

I need some advice with regards to Excelsior College, first let me explain my situation briefly then hopefully it will be easier to answer my question. I am currently an LPN however I already completed a 4 year BSN program with honors only to be terminated at the end because I couldn't pass the hesi exit exam out of the school, we had three shots but I couldn't do it, the anxiety was too overwhelming by the third time and I think I buckled, anyhow I had enough clinical hours to sit for my LPN boards and passed them on the first attempt, needless to say the debt I incurred during those 7 years of school and for going to a private, catholic college has now become a mortgage.

For my question, I am currently enrolled with TCN ( the college network ) and will soon be taking my first NC exam for excelsior's colleges LPN-ASN program. I reside in CT and was wondering if there is anyone out there who had graduated from EC recently and if you have any studying tips or advice to be successful on the nursing exams? The study material that TCN gave me seems very straight forward and the information doesn't appear to be too difficult as I have already gone through a traditional 4 year nursing program. Also I have heard about the difficulties some have had with the CPNE, can anyone recommend a good site and also a good workshop prior to testing? My plans were to go to New York for the CPNE because it appears to be the closest to me. I have taken several online classes so this program through excelsior seems like it would be a great fit for me, working and being a mom etc. and also I can't fathom having to go through another traditional program starting all over and having to redo my sciences again, I have invested too much money and I am not getting any younger.

Any advice would be so greatly appreciated?

Thanks Holly-hopefully soon to be RN :nurse:

They told us that ECE would not be not as helpful & would kind of look down on us a bit because we are from the south (louisiana). LOL. I guess that's just one of their sales pitches.

how far along are you in the process to Rn?

You will find out how much positive support you get from The College Network if you stop paying on your financing for their overpriced study guides! They will not hesitate to sue you in court for the balance of the contract, win that lawsuit, and confiscate your assets. That is the support you get from them.

So it sounds like the better bet is EC then .

EC is the school that provides classes, the exams, credits, the diploma. You have to deal with them anyway. All The College Network does is to insure you sign a binding contract with them for more than $5000 for some overpriced study guides that you do not need. Then they want you to pay for the study guides whether or not you ever start or complete the program. At least when you limit your exposure to dealing with EC, if you decide to quit the program, your costs end. With The College Network, your costs end when you have finished paying out their contract. They could care less if you graduate from nursing school.

So I guess I'm just wondering now what is the point of CN than?

The point of The College Network is to make money for The College Network. They are a third-party publisher and have no affiliation whatsoever with EC. This is what Excelsior has to say about TCN and other companies:

Luna, I read that a head to toe assessment is required and has to be videotaped in a clinical setting? Is that correct and how did you go about getting that done?

That is for the RN-to-BSN program.

Oh ok, I didnt realize that. I would be going for the Lpn to Rn so I guess I wont have to worry about that for now.

Thank you

Jezzy- once you sign into EC's website under MyEC, i believe if you scroll down about mid way on the right hand side it says FREE examination conten guides...click on that link, it will give you alist then click on the one you want, it will take a min or so to load in PDF format then just print it off.
