Has anyone here gone to the Northwest FL St College (OWCC) RN Program?

Published

I am looking at attending Northwest FL State College for the RN program next Fall. I missed the window for the program this Fall. Has anyone here attend thier RN Program? I just wonder how it is! I was going to go to PJC, but they require a preadmission exam, whereas NW does not! I already have my Bachelor's so I thought it was kind of silly to be required to take a test like that. The thing is PJC's program is shorter b/c they offer it during the Summer! But I live in Destin, so NW would be a lot closer!

can anyone help here! I feel like I post and no one responds:cry:

I just started the NWFSC RN program this fall. I know a girl who is in the PJC program and from what I heard NWF is better. The programs are set up differently and if you live in Destin it would be a really long drive. Not all clinicals are at the hospital and in our program there is no guarantee of your pick (if you even get to pick). If you meet all the requirements and get your 100 points, you should get in. I have noticed that its really hard to find people who go to NWFSC on this website.

Thanks;) I am doing everything I can to make the 100 points to get in next Fall. I am taking A&P II and Sociology right now and will take Microbiology and Elements of Nurtition in the Spring.

I do live in Santa Rosa Beach, but from already having to drive to classes, it's really not that far for me as PJC would be. I am from Pensacola and tried to get in to that program but had waited too long and the deadline had already passed.

Well, it's great to know someone who is in the program! Keep me updated on how it goes! I have heard that PJC isn't all that great from my friends who have gone there in the previous years. I went there for my AA, but that was a long time ago

So your saying you can't pick where you will do your clinicals? That stinks! Is Fort Walton Beach Medical Center one of them?

Thanks again and Good Luck!:D

Sounds like you're on the right track. I know they slightly changed the points system so I'm not sure, but if you can take Micro in the summer with ********* it is WAY better than with *****. I know firsthand because she taught us for two weeks while ********* was on vacation. OMG. I had to take A/P 1 and 2 at the same time last Spring to meet all the requirments for this fall. I thought THAT was a lot of studying...HA. We had our first test on 17 chapters. Ridiculous. I think for the most part people go to Ft walton beach medical center and Sacred Heart in Destin. There are several nursing homes to choose from, and we did not get to choose where we went. I think they try to place you in a clinical group that is convienent to where you live, but not always possible. I live in Florosa (Mary Esther) past Hurlburt and I got a nursing home right next to FWB medical center, but a guy that lives thirty seconds away from me got a nursing home in Bluewater Bay! Ugh.

For some reason some of your stuff didn't show up! Wierd! Yeah, the point system changed quite a bit. Instead of being able to have a C on A&P I & II they say you have to have a B or better to get the points. Who did you have for A&P I&II? I have Dr. ***** & I LOVE him! He is such a great teacher:D!

Did you have to take Sociology at NWFL? I know it's easy for some, but for me it has been so hard! I haven't written a paper in almost 6 years!

So if I live in Santa Rosa Beach then I will most likely get Sacred Heart or the Nursing home that is right next to Publix, kind of nice:cool:.

So how are the teachers in the program? What are your hours for school like? I have two daugthers under the age of 3 and next year my 3 year old will be starting the VPK somewhere in Niceville, but I still will have to worry about preschool for my 18 month old, who will be a little over 2 then. I know there is a TON more daycares in Niceville than there are out here in Destin and they are so much cheaper too, so that's going to be a big help!

I am worried a bit about starting a new program (well not new, but new for me), b/c I got my bachelor's in Interior Design from FSU back in 2004 and since the economy is awful, well there isn't much work. I have always wanted to be an RN, but my dad and mom are both in the medical field and back when I was in Highschool my dad told me I would hate the hours and wouldn't get paid what I was worth, but I wish I hadn't of listened to him and did what I wanted to, b/c now I would be working and actually have a job rather than feel like I am starting over!

Thanks again for chatting with me about the program! Here is my email if that is easier if you still want to talk since for some reason I can't see some of the stuff (probably names) that you have typed;)

some posts have been edited to comply with the terms of service of this site. posting names of instructors is not permitted due to privacy issues. please refer to the following portion of the terms of service which addresses this.

while it is important to be able to network, everyone should be mindful of the following:

  1. it is a small world - when we narrow it down to a state and throw in some personal info, there is actually a pretty good chance someone may recognize you if you are not careful. your privacy is paramount to us.
  2. while allnurses.com is a wonderful place to vent (without excess personally identifiable details) it is not the place to express why ("x" specific person, place or program) is terrible. gripe away, but since we cannot permit allegations to be made about named entities, your care in not naming them is very much appreciated.
  3. please do not give out personal information about others. do not name names where anyone could identify the person in any facility including your nursing programs.

in addition, posting email addresses is not permitted. many people lurk this site and you may receive spam. it is better to communicate this type of information via private message. you may send private messages when you have 15 posts.

Ok, so that stinks about the names and stuff, but oh well. After we get 15 posts we can share that info via private message. I guess it makes sense that people get on here and grab peoples email addresses and maybe bother or stalk them..lol! Thanks again for helping me out and feel better bout the program;)
