Have you or have you ever known any travelers that do home health assignments? I am considering going into this specialty next year, but my ultimate goal is to travel next winter so I'm not sure if that will limit my options.

Yes, I did home health travel back in 2003. Great experience and fun too. Then it was difficult to continue to find jobs but now...there are many openings....must have one yr recent experience. Contact me and I can recommend actual specific recruiters to call.
You can talk now and let them know when and where you are interested in going!

How does that work? Sounds like something I might consider.
You talk to travel agency.. if you have the right qualifications, they tell you about job postings they have or you tell them what area you want to go to......they find a position and submit your resume and application. then if hiring person likes it, they notify agency they are interested..agency sets up phone interview...you talk, then employer lets agency know if they want you, f so agency gives you the rest of the details, you almost always know pay and most benefits up front prior to phone interview. If you accept, start date is set and you get details in the mail.. Most hiring people are nurse managers or similar, most will call you again to get to know you better.
Oh yeah if you do not have license for that state,, you need to get one, agency will reimburse part or all of it. Most jobs will not wait long, so best to have license up front. Some states give walk-thru licenses where you can literally get them in one day if prepared ( like have fingerprint card). Also alll jobs want a physical simple one and shot record...if you can not find shots you must get them again.
Everyone requires one yr experience in home health to travel. Actually I believe any type travel nurse must have one yr experience. Benefits usually start day one..good places give free private housing also.
If you are adventurous you will have a great time. I suggest agreeing to just 13 weeks assignments and then re-upping if you like and are offered. Do not commit too much up front in case you are not thrilled with the place.

We recently hired two travel nurses, one worked out and the other was recently asked to leave. Please make sure you are familiar with the program the Home Health Agency uses. The nurse who didn't make it could not adapt to the computer program we use.
As I have never worked on the same program in all the home health jobs I have done, you must be adaptable to computers in general. Most agencies are writing their own software now, so impossible to be that prepared!
