Has anyone ever created a care plan as a means to organize your life and goals?

Hey all!

Hope everyone has had an amazing holiday season!

As the New Year approaches, I have decided to reevaluate my "ten year plan" and take a different approach in its creation and orgainzation. I am creating a nursing style care plan for myself! I am using problem statements created from assessment information, setting goals, and outlining interventions. I have been using this site http://www.mywebspiration.com to create my concept maps. Its a pretty cool site.

I was wondering if anyone else has ever done this?

I haven't but I like your thinking!

The nursing process which drives the careplan can be applied to any life situation/problem. It can be used for personal long and short goals. I haven't used it formally as in a written plan for myself but tend to use the process daily for whatever without thinking about it. I would bet that most nurses do, it's how we've been taught to critically think. A visual, such as the ones descibed in the link provided, is a great tool. Try 'processing' an issue out with your child, first with discussion and then assisting him/her with making a visual as a reminder to achieve whatever the goal is. Having the child come up with the 'interventions' to meet the goal may contribute to greater compliance to solving the issue. Give it a try. Right now I'm thinking about setting New Year's resolutions which are usually broken soon after they're set. If you address the resolution using the nursing process and come up with a visual type careplan whether in traditonal form or with pictures etc. and use it daily, I'm willing to wager you'll have a greater conviction to achieving the desired resolution. Try it.

I find I use the nursing process a lot outside work. It is like algebra - if you do not understand what your objective really is then you cannot choose the right formula to work out the problem.

I looked at your link. It looks more like care maps than care plans. I do use the nursing process and a version of a care plan in other situations. I actually find the process readily lends itself to all sorts of situations.

I assess that my unemployed status eats cow dung.

Dx> RN states that he is frustrated, fearful, irritated and depressed from lack of work.

Intervention: revision of resume, apply apply apply and keep a positive attitude.

Outcome: still no interview!!! ;-( ;-( ;-(

Plan: Move to another state, like Texas, where I'll be hot, employed, and eating the best beef on the planet (Please pardon my French, vegetarians!)
