Hi I was wondering if anyone has actually started or finished GWU Online Family Nurse Practitioner program and could give me any insight into how the program was? I was also curious if anyone did the program and was an out of state student (not in the DC/Virginia area) and how it went for you? Thank you!
Hi Calibean,
I have sent you a friend request. I wanted to ask you on your experience and information on portfolio. What kind of information do we need to prepare strong portfolio? How long is our initial orientation? I have been accepted in to RN to FNP at GWU 2014.I really appreciate your help. Thanks!!
Hey tachybradyRN,
I am new to all nurses.com and was able to friend request you. I wanted to first say congrats on being accepted to the GW FNP program! I am just starting out my research into FNP programs and GW's has really stood out to me. I was hoping you could possibly share some insight on the application process. How competitive is the program? Do you know how many people are in your class? Did you take the GRE since you are more then 2 years out of nursing school?
Again, Congrats on the great accomplishment. Get lots of rest now before your program starts!
Hi, kzywus1. The application was through the NursingCAS website and was quite detailed and required at least two letters of re%ference, but no GRE's. I am not sure how many people have been accepted to the program in entirety, but it looks like everyone who replied to this thread and applied to the school got in. GWU's overall acceptance rate is approximately 33%. I am starting in September so I have not really gotten much info about the program other than my acceptance, but I will keep you posted if you remind me!
Does anyone heard of experiences of students living farther away from the DC area? I've heard some horror stories of students from other online programs having to delay their program due to being unable to find clinicals...
Hi Jae919! I'm in the GW program and I live in Oklahoma. At orientation there were a lot of students who do not live in the DC area. I won't start clinicals until summer 2016 but they encouraged everyone to find preceptors ASAP, even a year in prior to when you'd start. They did say they could assist to help you find someone because they had lists of prior preceptors students have used. Also contacting your local nursing associations to find preceptors is helpful. Hope this is helps!
Thanks LKWalters22, that's really helpful!
Can I ask what you're experience has been as far as the organization and quality of GW faculty and staff. I haven't been super impressed by the people I've had contact with so far in the application process, but I'm wondering if it's better once one is actually in the program. How has your experience been so far?
Thanks again!
