Has anyone attended University of Rio Grande???

Currently I am attending Hocking College for their enrichment program to RN. They require too many general classes and I thought I could make it by attending school and keep my job but it was more than I bargined for. I need to keep my job because I am a single mother. I thought about going to University of Rio Grande and do their online program for LPN to RN or classes if I can still work. Can anyone provide me with any info about Rio and what your opinion is of the school?

I am currently going to University of Rio Grande on line. It is hard just because there is not a lecture to study from and a teacher to stress what is on the test. I go to clinicals one time a week for semesters 3-6. Semester 1 doesn't really count because it is just to learn how to use blackboard. The test so far have been every week to every two weeks. It has worked well for me because I can still work full time, go to clinicals and take my test and still spend time with my little girl. Good luck

I started the online and failed with RIo. I wound up doing the campus program there and I pretty much love it. I love Rio :)

I just finished the blackboard class and I am anxious to begin real classes, can anyone tell me what the clinical hours are like?

I plan on starting next year doing the online PN - RN. I hear it is very difficult... Some folks say they have you read 200 - 300 pages in a two week period without and study guides, power points or anything and then some folks have said that you do get study guides, power points and the occasional taped lecture... I'm confused, because, basically I don't know what to believe! I'm an older student and I don't think I'll be able to make it without some guidelines on what to study, b/c my memory just isn't what it used to be. The campus based program is not an option for me b/c I live 2 1/2 hours away from the University. Can any of you give us some insight? Thanks so much!!

I finished the LPN to RN program in August. The instructors do provide course outlines. We had taped lectures from the classroom students. There is TONS of reading that is expected in this program. This is a very self-paced environment. If you rely on going to lecture you will not do well in this program! Good luck on your decisions!

Can you give us an example of what your clinical schedule was like? What days, times, etc., and was there any freedom in setting up those clinical times or did you pretty much just have to show up when and where they told you? I will be graduating in March 2011 with my LPN from Cincinnati State/Great Oaks School of Nursing, and I MUST work full-time. I have no choice due to finances, so nearly all on-campus RN programs are going to be out for me. I am looking into Excelsior, ISU online LPN-BSN program, and the Rio Grande online one. I can't find much info regarding clinical schedule for the Rio Grande online program. Any response would be appreciated! Thanks!

Clinicals can be done either one day a week or one day every 2 weeks depending on the facility. Clinical sites are Adena in Chillicothe and Holzer in Gallipolis. They also use other facilities but these can vary from year to year depending on the staff that they have to be clinical instructors. These sites have included in the past: Pleasant Valley in Pt. Pleasant, WV; King's Daughter's in Ashland, KY; Cabell in Huntington, WV; etc. I have also heard that they intend to use Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster. I know of a few people that were from the Cincy/Dayton area that made it through the program. The program starts in the fall, however clinicals do not begin until the following summer. You spend 1 year in clinicals. The school recommends that you do not work while in the program but I worked full time and made it through the program. You just have to be prepared to have ZERO social life for a year. :D Hope this helped!
