Any advice for a new ED nurse?
Not at all how I interpreted the above comment. In fact, I thought she was saying the complete opposite. Don't be lazy!! I believe she was encouraging her to be proactive about getting patients from Triage. Can't tell you how many times I have seen nurses leave one of their beds empty when there are triaged pts in the waiting room and then complain the second you assign a squad to their room.

Has anyone attended University of Rio Grande???
Clinicals can be done either one day a week or one day every 2 weeks depending on the facility. Clinical sites are Adena in Chillicothe and Holzer in Gallipolis. They also use other facilities but these can vary from year to year depending on the staff that they have to be clinical instructors. These sites have included in the past: Pleasant Valley in Pt. Pleasant, WV; King's Daughter's in Ashland, KY; Cabell in Huntington, WV; etc. I have also heard that they intend to use Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster. I know of a few people that were from the Cincy/Dayton area that made it through the program. The program starts in the fall, however clinicals do not begin until the following summer. You spend 1 year in clinicals. The school recommends that you do not work while in the program but I worked full time and made it through the program. You just have to be prepared to have ZERO social life for a year. Hope this helped!

Has anyone attended University of Rio Grande???
I finished the LPN to RN program in August. The instructors do provide course outlines. We had taped lectures from the classroom students. There is TONS of reading that is expected in this program. This is a very self-paced environment. If you rely on going to lecture you will not do well in this program! Good luck on your decisions!

How To Become an Emergency Nurse
You recieve your ADN after about 2 years of nursing school. Your BSN takes about 4 years of nursing school. If you are concerned about finances I would recommend the ADN program. You will be in school for 2 years and then will take the NCLEX to become an RN. This way you would be able to work as an RN and could still go back to school for BSN. Some hospitals will also help pay for you to go back to school. You typically will sign with the hospital to work for them for a set amount of years if they assist with your tuition. If you absolutely can not afford 2 years of school right now and need to start working ASAP, you could always get your LPN or Licensed Practical Nurse. This typically takes 1 year to complete and classes are usually offered at trade schools. Good luck with your decision!

Transitioning to the ER
Just wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I am a new RN that will be starting in the ER next week. I have been an LPN for three years in an Urgent Care and was just wondering if anyone has any advice on how to transition to the ER. Any books, supplies, etc. that would be helpful for me? Thanks!

Who is an advocate for nurses?
To make a long story short: The physician allegedly made an inappropiate comment to a patient. I did not witness this and the patient did not report it to me. The patient reported it to the MA that I was working with. I informed my manager, who will inform the medical director. However, my manager told me not to fill out an incident report until after she talked with the medical director. I just don't know if I should fill out an incident report or even if I am required to since I never actually witnessed anything. I'm also concerned that my manager is protecting the physician and not me by telling me not to fill out an incident report. My main concern is: Is reporting this to my manager enough or do I need to take any other steps? Thanks!

Who is an advocate for nurses?
Who can a nurse go to in a hospital if they need advice and have talked to their manager but disagree with the advice? Who is an advocate for the nurse? Risk and Legal? Corporate Compliance? HR? Or someone else?
