Anyone else on here get accepted to Harcum College's evening nursing program? If so, anyone else concerned with the current accreditation status, site warning status, etc?
So the woman wrote back regarding fingerprints for students out of state. "I have clarified with Certified Background that you can get your prints done in either your state of residence or in PA. All of it will get sent to the DPW anyway, so please do what it most convenient. They did say that rolled prints are best, but we don't specify at this point." I looked online to see where the PA ones are located- all are VERY far, or have strange hours. I am just going to go to a local police station and have them done then mail them.

Ok I will do NJ fingerprint than so once I go on the certified profile it will direct me to my state. Ok now I have to pay for my parking permit and get my stethoscope, and white shoes. This is hurting my pockets. My name is Lashana

Did you complete CPR? I found a place in Cherry Hill that offers classes through American Heart Association. You can find location and times on the American Heart Associations website. I had the class last night- it was only me and one other person in the entire class. It was great! If you haven't gone yet, I definitely recommend this place. My name is Whitney BTW.

Harcum is far from being in compliance regulations. It is the director's job to tell you they are in compliance so that you will enroll. They will not know if they are in compliance until the visit in the fall of '14. Out of the 6 standards, each with multiple sub-standards, Harcum failed 5 of them in 2012. If one piece is off from the visit, the program will lose accreditation. The NCLEX pass rate is a separate issue. This is the second time in 3 years they have been on warning status. Their pass rates went from 82% to 64% in one year. Not to discourage, a warning about wasting your time and money.

Thank you but its really no other schools that fits my schedule except for GMC which is a hr and 10mins from where I live. So not doing that and Lasalle I didn't get accepted. So I chose Harcum. Had two cousins that graduated May 2013 and both are working as RNs

I appreciate your concern/warning, but for some of us, this is our only option in pursing a degree in nursing. The accreditation issue has been a huge concern of mine since the beginning- of course I do not want to waste my time and money and ultimately end up with nothing. I've emailed the director countless times in order to acquire some information regarding this issue. She was very confident in her explanations, took the time to send me very lengthy emails, and continuously reassured me that the issues have all been addressed. Do you happen to have inside information that these issues have not or will not be corrected before the upcoming site visit?

Unfortunately, I have very intimate knowledge of what the issues are and how they are being addressed. Improvements have been made, not sure it is enough. I am also familiar with those 'lengthy emails'. That is all she sends. One thing I am not aware of, have they added an elevator to the building? Not having that, or sufficient bathrooms could be all that is needed to close the program. I understand your limited options for programs. I truly hope it works out for everyone. Just be an informed consumer and follow your gut. If you feel your questions have been answered to your satisfaction, go for it! I do know that most of the faculty does really care. Be careful of how you share any questions, concerns, or complaints. As for the previous poster with 2 cousins that graduated in '13 and are employed. The program was under different leadership and board pass rates were above 80%.

BTW, the woman in charge of certified background at the school emailed me back stating that she placed a call to figure out how we would need to have fingerprinting performed since we live out of state. She said she will contact me when she has more information. So I wouldn't pay the fee just yet. Once she contacts me, I will let you know what she says.
