Happy Nurse Roll Call

Nurses General Nursing

Published

We've seen enough rant/vent threads here about nursing. I'm not going to change course because of what I read here but some young folk (or not so young folk) who might make great nurses are logging in and getting weirded out. The tag line of this board is "nurses helping nurses" - not "nurses chasing away prospective nurses".

So with that said, I think it would be nice to hear from the other side for a change.

Nurses: If you're happy to be a nurse, if you like your job, if you're not looking to quit, if you think nursing is the place to be this thread is for you. If you can't imagine doing anything else for a living - job politics, bad managers, mean patients, aggravating coworkers notwithstanding - check in and say hi. If you've been on the same job for a while and still like it (or love it) in spite of the aforementioned stuff - please post and shine some positivity on the board.

Students: If you're a student who's in nursing school and enjoying it - check in here. There's enough threads by people getting A's but saying they're miserable. B students are underrepresented though. If you're getting B's and enjoying the ride ... speak up. If you're getting A's or C's and still excited about the future (bad economy notwithstanding) - please share.

Specializes in LTC.

I'm a nursing student and getting a B--I strive for an A but I don't get down on myself for not quite reaching it. Even though my instructors make me a bit nervous sometimes I love learning new skills (in skills lab) and clinicals on Thursdays. I have had two great patients so far this semester and see new things and do new things every week. Even though I know nursing will be stressful at times I'm looking forward doing what I can to help my patients and constantly learning new things and being challenged.

Nursing school is hard but I try to focus on getting through it one semester at a time-- and when people tell me they want to go to nursing school I tell them about what I have learned and tell them about how to get there too.

Specializes in LTC, med-surge, adult day care.

I worked in med-surge for 7 years and tired of it, I worked in long term care and tired of that. tried my hand at home care, md office and ambulatory care. Now I work for adult day care sevices in which we specialize in alzheimers disease. I love it. That is why I love nursing. So many areas to work, learn and explore.

Specializes in Adult Acute Care Medicine.

Only 18 months an RN and love it.

Yes, there are very stressful days....

but no day is the same...

I am constantly interacting and learning..

and each day, I go home feeling that I really "made a difference"...

truly a great profession with so many opportunities and areas to explore.

Specializes in Med/Surg.

I've been a nurse for almost ten years and I love it. No, I wouldn't change jobs, and I can't imagine doing anything else. When you know you've made a difference in someone's life; helped them smile through a hard time, shared a moment where both of you learnt something about each other, where you've helped a family member through the loss of a loved one, the times are endless when I've left a shift knowing "I did something good today". There's nothing else like it. I still go to work with a smile on my face!

Specializes in Cardiac, Hospice, Float pool, Med/Peds.

I LOVE being a nurse and would choose to do it over and over and over. Sure, I have bad days, but I can leave and not come back until the next shift. I love taking care of people and being appreciated is the best part. I love getting cards or a family saying that I am the best RN that they have ever had. The satisfaction of helping patients and families in such a hard time as being in the hospital is the best....
