Anyone know what areas of nursing are the hardest/easiest to egt into as a new grad around here? Right now I am only in the pre nursing phase, but I am wondering for the future.lol Do most grads get some sort of choice in area, or are they pretty much only able to choose a few areas? Does it depend at all on how well you do in school?

I'll graduate in December and I've been talking to Sentara. One of the first questions the recruiter asked me was my area of interest. I told her the units I'm interested in and I have an interview for each unit in August. I don't think that you'll have an issue getting into the area that interests you most. GL in school!

I hope so!

Hello and welcome!

I just graduated in May, and am working on a cardiac unit at Leigh. You will not have any problem getting into any field you want as a new grad here. It is your preference as to what path you choose. My interest is in emergency/trauma nursing, and considered going right into it from school, but chose to start off in cardiac for several reasons: 1. I am a new grad, and need the experience under my belt. 2. Lots of what is seen in the ED is cardiac related. 3. I need to gain the organizational skills necessary for the ED.

Grades do not matter, as long as you graduated. I was never asked to provide a transcript. You can work right out of school before you take the boards, but must pass to continue working.

Good luck.

Hello,

I am a new RN-A and I started at the Sentara Careplex in Hampton. We have about 9 of my classmates, newly hired for this unit which scares me. Cardiac also hired about 6 of our new grads, ED about 3 and ICU 1 that I have talked to. I got offered my position the same day and I also got offered a position on Cardiac, but chose Medical due to shift. The unit I wanted was 5th floor, but didn't even get an interview. You must need experience for that floor. Anyway you won't have a problem getting a job with Sentara.
