RN Pay Rates in NC
I live in Newport News VIrginia and starting pay for an RN where I work is 20.25 hr, 8.00 night shift differential , no extra for weekends. I can't see myself making anylower. The benefits are great. You can get insurance for a family for 210.00 a month and that includes medical, dental and vision insurance. Sentara pays 196.00 every two weeks. Does anyone know of any hospitals in Raleigh that do that. I'm going to miss my jobs here in Virginia.

Lights went off During RN-Nclex!!
Hello everyone, Took my test today, started storming this morning, my test was at 9am. After 3 hours into the test the lights went off and stayed off for about 2 and a half hours. We had a chance to reschudule or stay if they hadn't come back on in 30 minutes. It was either finish the test today or take it in September. The lights came back on around 230pm and 15min later in the test it cut off. I had a Kaplan class and the test was way over my head. I felt like Kaplan didn't help me at all. I did all the question trainers, over and over. The questions were 3times harder than Kaplans test bank and Q bank. I don't know what to recommend, but Kaplan isn't it. I felt confident on how to anwer the questions but they were just too hard. I struggled through every question. I even had a question of which person you would see first, it had a drug with the signs and symptoms listed in a, b, c, d and it wanted you to pick the one first by the way it had the signs and symptoms. I tried using the abc's but I was like lord help me. I had about 10 medications I didn't have a clue about and about 5 select all that apply. I prayed for it to shut off. There is just no way to prepare for this exam. I am so frustrated right now. I don't see how anyone passes it. Its just the luck of questions I guess. Good luck to you all!!!!

hamtpon roads/peninsula hospitals
Hello, I am a new RN-A and I started at the Sentara Careplex in Hampton. We have about 9 of my classmates, newly hired for this unit which scares me. Cardiac also hired about 6 of our new grads, ED about 3 and ICU 1 that I have talked to. I got offered my position the same day and I also got offered a position on Cardiac, but chose Medical due to shift. The unit I wanted was 5th floor, but didn't even get an interview. You must need experience for that floor. Anyway you won't have a problem getting a job with Sentara.

Cut off around 80!!!!????
Congratulations, I have 7 more days and it will be over. I hope.

Start Job or Wait and take Nclex 1st?
Hello, I'm am a new RN-a. I wish I would have waited before I started this job and took my boards 1st. The managers put extra stress on you. I found out yesterday that my new grad manager and the manager for the floor have been checking the BON web site to see if graduates pass the Nclex exam. I think that is an invation of privacy. I have done nothing but test since I started this job and I haven't had time to study for the NCLEX exam much. We've have had a math test which you must pass to keep the job and they let you know up front that you must pass it to keep the job. I have had an EKG test in which you must know about 25-30 strips and drugs for that and you must pass it. We had 3 computer based test on how to put in orders and admit a patients. I have been so stressed its rediculous. I don't know how employers expect you to focus on the NCLex. Its my own fault. If I knew before, what I know now. I would have waited til I passed the exam. My boss is pressuring everyone into taking the test. My friend wants to reschedule, but my boss was telling her she needs to take it. The place I work have hired almost my entire nursing class, so when you see someone they are always asking that same old question. When are you taking your exam? I'm going to take mine, but if I wasn't ready I wouldn't let them be the judge of it. What's your opinion?

Kaplan and the magic 65%...Is it necessary to test?
I have taken kaplan also and have been scoring in the high 50's and 60's. I scored 61% on the readiness exam, but didn't think it was enough to tell me if I was ready. I take my exam July 30th. I hope I pass because I'm burnt out.

Should I postpone or just take test NCLEX-RN
Hello Jeffrey, Sounds to me like you're ready. I just took Kaplan review about 2 weeks ago and I'm Scoring in the 50's and up. They say if you don't get above 65, to review the content for those areas. I didn't do well on the diagnostic, couldn't concentrate, neighbors allergies were bothering her. I did get 61% on th readiness exam. The instructor said that you would more than likely pass if you got 60 and above. I can't rely on that knowing that I didn't do well on the diagnostic. I'm going to review material for the sections that I got below 65 on. I have also done Saunders review book. The questions in that book are too easy. I don't think the Nclex will be like that. If I we're you I would take the exam. Good luck.

Scared
Hello L/D newby, I am in the same situation as you. I start on the 9th of July and take my test on the 30th. I didn't want to start the job and have to stop either. This sucks. I am a LPn but that is embarassing to have to drop down if I don't pass. I guess its apart of life. We're human aren't we.

Need Encouragement
Sounds to me like you had a difficult test and that is what it is suppose to be like if you are getting questions correct. The more you get right the more difficult it seems, so keep your head up. I will be in your shoes the end of July. You did your best and thats all that anyone could ask for. Keep us posted.

studying for nclex lpn, afraid of failing
I took my LPN exam in 2004 1 month after I graduated and I had one week of vacation in Florida the same month. I passed the first try. I got the Mosby study guide and and Kaplan RN study guide. I did 100's of question until I started getting around in the 60's and up. By the time I did that I felt like I was ready. I felt like the LPn exam was based more on knowledge. I don;t remember having to think do I assess or implement like the RN exam is set up. I looked in my Mosby book the other day and went through some of the questions. They are so easy compared to the RN information. I know you can pass it. It's easy. Just continue to do lots of questions. I had alot of OB, how a pt walks with a cane or crutches, how a pt eyes would look if the we're on certain drugs like Morphine. Everybody's test is different though. I thought it was base mostly on knowledge.

Assessment and Implementation
Hello Everyone, I was wondering if anyone had a strategy for assessment and implementation. I know that you always assess before you implement but, some of the questions according to the way they ask you its kind of tricky. I always thought if the question asked what action you would do next you would have to implement( which is what action you would take) but that's not always the case. You really have to be careful. Any suggestions?
