Halfway through the LVN/LPN program and already ready to start applying for RN school

Published

Hello everyone,

I am new here to allnurses.com, but I can tell you now that over the past few days I have enjoyed reading through all of the information you all have to offer.

Here's where I stand:

I am about halfway through my LPN/LVN program at a local vocational college, and I am not willing to stop there.

I just feel as though "if I stop now, I'll never want to get my RN"

I've been a CNA for 4 years, not just in LTC but in Home Health and at a local hospital.

I got my phlebotomy license about 2 years ago and still do a couple jobs here and there.

But mainly I am a Medical assitant at a Local University (yes, a lot of universities have clinics, weird I know; but where else are these party hardy students supossed to go when something goes wrong! haha)

I've always wanted to get my RN, BSN but I was always too scared to just put in my application.

I went to community college and got all of my prereq's out of the way, but jus never felt up to par. So i did the CNA thing, then phlebotomy, then MA.

now alittle less than a year from finishing my LPN/LVN schooling, then taking the NCLEX and I have no other way to but up from there.

and let me tell you "I am scared and excited at the same time!!"

anyone else feel as though if they stop they will get too comfortable and not want to continue?

I am currently in LPN school (graduating in July) and in January I started my RN program online (yep, doing both right now!). Let me just tell you - the RN program is NOTHING compared to LPN. If you can survive this, you can do anything!

Best of luck!

I didn't know you were able to finish an RN program while also doing an LVN program, but if this is so, then props to you. That sounds intense.

What school are you going to? How are you able to go without graduating yet? Thanks!

I am curious as well. I thought admission to an RN bridge program was graduation from LPN/LVN program... Really curious because I would LOVE to start RN program a little early!

wow!! how'd you do that?!?! that sound like something i would totally do.. can you share some info?

Specializes in Telemetry, Med Surg.

At my school, the first semester (out of 5) of RN school does not have any clinicals, just a nursing lab one night a week. Most of the information in the first semester was review of what I'd already learned in LPN school (legal, ethical, how to do a head-to-toe assessment, charting, medication administration, drip factors, etc). My teachers really prepared us to go on to get our RN, so that first semester was easier for me than it was for others (even some of the people who were taking it for a second time failed!).

I didn't want to do all the extra work of the RN school (we were doing Med Surg, Psych, and OB at the same time in LPN school), but if you just focus and DO IT, anything is possible. Do not stop going to school. Once you are done with your LPN, if you want to get your RN, do it immediately. It doesn't get any easier if you wait. And with your LPN background, you are going to do AMAZING!
