Had orientation today..questions about pharmacology

I had my orientation today which was vague. One thing they did mention was I believe everything besides pharmacology you need at least a 75%. For pnI pharmacology you need a 85% or better and pnII pharmacology a 90% or better! That scares me! Thats probably the area I am worst at! I have been reviewing some a&p here and there from my old med assistant exam review book. I havent gotten to any math review yet. Unfortunately im not sure what Im doin with my job due to the lack of them working with my school schedule, and Im finishing up training at work and of course my boss has been having me coming in ALOT lately and for the next few weeks.Maybe it will help out a lil that Im working in pharmacy at a hospital. I got bumped from my unit clerk position to the pharmacy. Rather have worked more during the summer bc now schools coming up! Are there any good sites to go to to prepare myself? Im not sure what kind of math it will be. I even forgot how to do some of the basics! Thanks!

The math portion on pharmacology is easy basic algebra. One question on my test was the doctor ordered 50mg of drug x. You have 25 mg tablets of drug x on hand. How many tablets do you give? 2 tablets.

Do they have you like go from decimals to fractions, fractions to decimals, percents, add, subtract ,multiply and divide decimals and fractions..etc? I kind of forgot how to do all that. I had a math notebook around somewhere b4 if I could find it. Any websites you know of to give me an idea of some other types of questions to practice (that also shows you how to do them?)

We work out of this book in Pharm: Amazon.com: Calculation of Drug Dosages: A Work Text, 8e (9780323045889): Sheila J. Ogden RN MSN: Books

This summer we had an orientation class and went over Fractions, decimals, percents, ratios, and proportions. So we had all of that out of the way. In Pharm lab we have covered Metric & houshold measurements, apothecary and household measurements, equivalents between apthocary and metric measurements, how to read drug labels, oral dosages, parenteral dosages, iv flow rates, and pediatric dosages.

So basically know:

Roman numerals

Arabic Numbers

add/sub/mult/divide fractions

fractions to decimals

add/sub/mult/divide decimals

decimal to fractions

fractions to percents

percent to decimal

celcius

fahrenheit

kg and lbs

A really good website for you is khanacademy.org, well known very good site and he will break down any math you need brushing up on.

There is math involved however, not much. What's important about pharm is the drugs and knowing what they do and their side effects. There are sooo many drug questions on NCLEX because that's primarily what LVN's do - pass drugs.

I really like www.pharmacy-tech-study.com for review... very organized and divided into the different subjects. Lot's of math and some good videos too.

Remember, the instructor will be teaching what you need to know. Trying to anticipate in advance might be a waste of enery. Better to get the syllabus and see if there is any recommended reading outside your text and notes. Believe me when I tell you there will be plenty of info for you to absorb, but no need in eating an elephant when a horse will do.
