  1. I just made a schedule like that today. My hubby said I had OCD... lol I feel like Nursing and OCD go hand in hand :) But i'm super pumped about my color coded schedule.
  2. ...........................
  3. Time management was the hardest for me. I procrastinated big time last semester and would wait the night before the test to study 4 chapters. I ended up with B's in all of my classes luckily. I'm a mom and wife so I still have household duties to take care. My husband was a huge support system and helped around the house. I've learned a few things since last semester. This is my game plan. I've set up my calender in google. I added all my classes, the times, and also what I will be doing in each class. I have it color coded for each class. On a day I have a test I marked it RED so that I can easily spot test days. I've blocked off times for sleep. This helps me visualize my entire day. I plan to read the chapter before class (I never did that last semester) and make out flashcards. I'm a visual learner, so writing things out for me works best. I use the neon index cards and use colored pens. If all goes as planned I should have all my notecards made out before the test and I can just review those. My problem last semester is that I was waiting until the night before the test to make out notecards... that was just a waste of time for me. I wasn't using my time efficiently. I never studied on the weekends... I now plan to at least spend a small amount of time going over each course, at least review something. Also when I would get home from school I would come home and eat something... do something for you for an hour or so. Watch a show that you love. You can't devote every single minute to nursing school. You will lose your sanity. Take breaks in between studying and don't stay up too late studying. I literally felt during finals week that my brain was done retaining anything. For me if I were studying at night and was getting sleepy or frustrated I would go to sleep. I never stayed up past 11. Get up in the morning an hour early and review. This semester I also plan to buy the Saunders Nclex PN review book and do NCLEX questions pertaining to what we are learning. I have Med Surg this semester too so I plan to buy the "Med Surg Success" book. This is what i've learned. It's simply just my experience. :)
  4. We have 3 or 4 on each Pharmacology & Fundamentals test. Both teachers have apologized for doing it. But these types of questions will be present on the NCLEX so they are trying to get us used to answering these. I'm not a fan of them at all!!!
  5. So excited this week :) We finally had our first week of tests. I had pharm, geriatrics, and fundamentals. I got a 95 on pharm, and an 88 in geri/fund. It feels really good to start the semester out good!!! Feel like a huge "anxiety weight" has been lifted. Did anyone else have a great week???
  6. We work out of this book in Pharm: Amazon.com: Calculation of Drug Dosages: A Work Text, 8e (9780323045889): Sheila J. Ogden RN MSN: Books This summer we had an orientation class and went over Fractions, decimals, percents, ratios, and proportions. So we had all of that out of the way. In Pharm lab we have covered Metric & houshold measurements, apothecary and household measurements, equivalents between apthocary and metric measurements, how to read drug labels, oral dosages, parenteral dosages, iv flow rates, and pediatric dosages. So basically know: Roman numerals Arabic Numbers add/sub/mult/divide fractions fractions to decimals add/sub/mult/divide decimals decimal to fractions fractions to percents percent to decimal celcius fahrenheit kg and lbs How that helps. And please feel free to PM me anytime. :) *also i have a bunch of powerpoints and handouts from class i can attempt to email you. Just let me know :)
  7. I'm 26 as well and starting LPN :)
  8. [color=#9933cc]1. my program starts aug 15th @ shawnee community college in southern, il. 2. the program is 3 semesters, fall, spring, and summer. i will be finished by july 2013. 3. i'm choosing lpn because the school i'm attending requires you to be an lpn before entering the rn program. 4. estimated costs are $6,700. i feel that it will be more like $5,000ish.
  9. Congrats on starting again. :) I tried the LPN 6 years ago when I was 19. I wasn't ready for it then, but i'm definetly ready now. :) I also start this fall in the LPN program. It's normal to be scared... it means you care :) You will do great!!!!

  13. I think it sounds good. It shows that you are a hard worker and determined. I would probably omit going to class even if you were sick though. Also maybe add why you want to be a nurse or why you want to go to this specific school. If you have any experience as a nurses aide, or volunteer you might want to add that as well. Also good luck :)
