Gwynedd Mercy ABSN May 2019

Published

Hey everyone! Has anyone applied to Gwynedd Mercy's May 2019 cohort for their ABSN program? I was wondering what everyone's GPA was. I have a bachelors in exercise science and graduated with a 3.4 GPA and my prereq GPA so far is a 3.1 not including nutrition and organic biochemistry. I feel Luke that is not enough to get in but I am still hopeful!

how's everything going?!? did you start anything?

I've started classes but I've been slacking. Started the complio. Have my drug test this Thursday and the TB test on Monday. I had requested a copy of my immunization records but they said it'll take a week for them to track it down. So I can only get my other boosters/ vaccines after I get them. Such a pain. My PA background check is done. Need to do the fingerprints for NJ and PA still. Are you starting this August? If so, which campus?

I'll be at Bensalem campus & yes, I'll be starting August. I'm going through the stupid Immunizations myself. I just got rejected for the all immunizations because its not on letter head?... so I have to go BACK to my doc and tell them they need to write it or put it on letter head? This is such an annoying process.

Letterhead? That's weird. I guess I'll just have to make sure mines are done in a letterhead. Don't know why the counselor didn't tell us. I'm probably on a shorter time constraint. I applied way late. So now, I'm behind on everything. I'm just so stressed.

I know its too late, but is this program good?

What's your email? I'm going to invite you to the FB page (if you have facebook) to help meet other students, to ask advice, etc at this Gwynedd Mercy ABSN program. Also, this guy Mike posted a review about this school and I messaged him privately asking more advice and whatever else I can think of and here is the IMPORTANT stuff he said.

(Mike wrote this on the Gwynedd Mercy FB group)
Someone told me about this group and I thought I would join and put in my 2 cents about my GMU Center City campus experience. I just graduated in May and passed NCLEX in June and it feels great to be finished.

Anyone heading into this program is intelligent, otherwise you wouldn't have made it to this point. It is rough though, I equate it to my 4 years at Penn State crammed into 15 months and you have to let it run your life, at least I did. People more intelligent than me failed classes so it comes down to drive and how much you really want it. I have never been stressed out from school like this and on top of it, you will most likely get sick being fresh blood in the hospital setting.

Be ready to put your life on pause, at least for the first year.
After week one, it was a hard pill I had to swallow when I realized what I had actually signed myself up for and no matter how much my friend who went through in 2016 warned me, it was still a bit of a culture shock. I didn't see my close friends for the first 8 months in the program because I had to stay in every weekend reading, studying, and doing my work.

I recommend this option to people that are serious about becoming an RN in 15 months, if you are unsure, don't waste your time and money.

Play keep up and not catch up, if you slip here and let things pile up, you're going to hate yourself. Finally, find a few classmates that are hard workers and stick with them until the end, there will be lots of group projects and I was fortunate to team with a few people as serious as I was which made things more bearable not having to be grouped with duds who slowly get weeded out anyway.

Good luck future RNs...

(This is me asking him for advice and just to get info)

Hey Evelina, I was the same way so you are fine, it's the people that aren't worried and not taking it seriously that get into trouble quickly . Enjoy your last month of summer because from This August until May, you life is ran by GMU. Luckily, you are starting at the best time because I started in the winter so I had Med Surg 2 throughout my summer which was horrible

The workload the first 2 semesters is a lot though, there was a point where I was reading on the train, going to class 8 hours, reading on the train home, doing work until I fell asleep, and doing it day in and day out. You are capable of doing it, you will see though, some people won't adapt and will screw up, just jump when they say jump and you will make it, it's just they say jump a LOT hahahaha

Out of I think the 20 original students We had 2 people completely fail out of the program, 2 others failed and got dropped back to the cohort behind us and are still currently in the program now

Starting in August is probably the BEST time to start honestly because by this next summer, your hard classes are over with

Also, pharmacology is not that big of a deal in the program, that's not really the big one to worry about, Med Surg 1, 2, and pediatrics and maternity are the big ones that drop ppl

so pharm will be taught by a professor named Maria Warnick who is a great professor... Fundamentals is tough too but doable, we actually did have someone fail it actually

Like there are students that think it's going to be easy and are going to get hit with a life bomb in a few weeks, you are preparing for it

Na you don't really need to know anything going into the program, everything is given to you

it's just the amount that is given is so much with multiple classes, you may end up studying a bunch of a certain thing and then it doesnt even appear on a test, it's a head ache

there will be students that are just doing it becasue their parents want them to or something and dont take it seriously, watch

Hey everyone! I got accepted into GMercy's ABSN program (Center City) for the fall and wondering if anyone can provide some feedback regarding their experience in the program. Any and all info is greatly appreciated ?
